Imo: Medical Laboratory Scientists Decry Moribund Health Sector, Calls for Employment of Experts at Primary Health Centres
By Ikenna Orioha
Given the eight (8)years of neglect of the Health Sector in Imo State by the immediate past government, the Guild of Medical Laboratory Science Directors, Imo State branch, had called on the government to employ the services of medical experts to run the Primary Health Care Centres across the state to enhance healthy living.
This call was made by Doctor Nse Abasi Peter, the Imo State Chairman of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Science Directors while answering questions from journalists shortly after their familiarization visit to the Secretary to Imo State Government, Uche Onyeaguocha, at his Office, Owerri, recently.
The group explained that such a move would ensure quality regular medical diagnosis to the rural dwellers in line with the rebuilding Imo policy of the present administration.
Abasi regretted that the previous government led by the APC thoroughly neglected MLSCN while appealing to Governor Emeka Ihedioha to effectively carry them along so that their objective could be met to save lives of the rural people who especially lack proper medical diagnosis and treatment.
According to Abasi, it was uncalled for that “Non-Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria hired certified medics to perform professional duties of certified Medical Laboratory Scientists.
“It is also appalling that only two (2)Medical Laboratory Scientists work at the local government area Civil Service Pay Role while nonprofessionals and Non-Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria licensed medics were employed to do our work”.
They promised to work with the PDP led government in order to rebuild Imo State holistically to the good of all and sundry.
