Imo Govt To Partner Police, NDLEA Against Illicit Drugs Supply In Imo …As Obonna Seeks collaboration

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring Imo State, Hon. Chief Ezechukwu Nnamdi Obonna, has expressed his readiness to partner with the Nigeria Police Force, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA), with a view to comb the menace and supply of illicit drug substances and trafficking in the state.

He stressed the need to form an effective collaboration with the government and the agencies that can go to nooks and crannies of the state to root out these drug users and peddlers.

Obonna stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to Imo State Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma, and NDLEA CN, State Commander Abdullahi Saeed, in their office respectively on Monday.

He revealed that they will all join hands to make Imo a drug free state, which in turn will make Imo State a crime free state.

According to him, ” we have been into awareness programme, sensitizing the public to make sure we reduce the rate of demand on illicit drugs.

“So, we want to shift into another face of the fight which is the reduction of the supply of these drugs. We are aiming to form a formidable partnership with the Police, NDLEA, and other sister agencies to reduce the supply of illicit drugs in the state.

“I advised Imolites to stay off illicit drugs, as the saying goes, no income is enough to form a consumption of this illicit drugs, hence anybody that is taking this drugs will always end up involving in crime. when the supply is low, the people taking it will not find it anywhere to consume”.

The SA on Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring, appealed to Imo youths and the entire Imolites to please stay off illicit drugs for the purpose of good health, and for the purpose of helping the governor fight insecurity in the state.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, expressed joy to identify with the SA Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring for his visit.

He noted that the command has active Anti Narcotics Unit hence assured his willingness to have effective partnership, adding that many of the youths have been infraterated with drugs which led them to commit crimes.

The CP commended Senator Hope Uzodimma for reappointing Ezechukwu Obonna as SA On Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring, saying that means he knows his job, saying if they can be able to control the supply of drugs the state will be crime less with the help of NDLEA and other agencies.

Also speaking, the State Commander NDLEA Imo State, Abdullahi Saeed, CN, expressed delight for having SA On Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring Imo State, described the visit as very necessary to them to brainstorm ideas on how to control the supply of illicit drugs in the state.

He noted that the command has recorded success in combating drug trafficking and other related matters in the state.

Saeed, thanked Obonna for his efforts to partner with the NDLEA in fighting against illicit drugs and control of the supply for better results in Imo State.

He used the opportunity to thank the wife of the Imo State Governor, Her Excellency, Chioma Uzodimma for building their rehabilitation and training center and wonderful things she has done to NDLEA.

Saeed , equally appreciated Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for appointing a man who knows his work in person of Hon. Ezechukwu Nnamdi Obonna as SA On Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring, says the command needs vehicle for easy operation, promised to collaborate with the government to achieve success.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Illegal Motor Park, Hon. Pst. Frank Onwumere, assured the SA On Narcotics And Illicit Drugs Monitoring for better synergy in order to control the supply of illicit drugs substances in the state.
