Imo Govt Charges Youths on Using Social Media Productively

Imo Youths have been charged to use the Social Media productively, proficiently and effectively in order to promote their cultural heritage to improve social development and enrich themselves mentally and materially.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Affairs, Engr Rex Okoro while speaking at the Annual Round-table on Cultural Orientation organized by National Institute for Cultural Orientation, NICO, held at the Rockview Hotels, Owerri, on Thursday.
Okoro who represented Governor Emeka Ihedioha on the event, emphasised that young minds should use the Social Media to enrich themselves mentally, academically, socially, religiously and economically by marketing their businesses, exchanging positive ideas, encouraging and enlightening themselves on the cultural heritages of Igboland to move forward.
He warned young people to always “avoid negative use of Social Media. Do not be deceived by unruly elements to malign elders and those who do well in government. Rather use the Social Media to share thoughtful ideas and create employment for your wellbeing. The believe and stand of the Rebuild Imo Project is to meaningfully empower Imo youths which is already on course”.
Dwelling on the theme of the Conference, “Youth, Social Media and Cultural Development”, the Governor also charged the youth to often use the new media to promote their culture and tradition, good governance and fair democracy for sustained society.

He thanked the youth for participating effectively as he enjoined them to enhance their orientation from the lessons of program which he described as memorable, appreciating organizers , assuring them of government’s readiness to support in the promotion of culture and social development of the State.
The event featured lecturers delivered by resource persons and people from all social stratas.
