I Will Decentralise Governance In Imo –Senator Anyanwu
As the campaign for the gubernatorial race of who will occupy the government house (Douglas House) in Imo State heats up, governorship candidates of various political parties are now busy canvassing their manifesto to the Imo electorate.

In the light of the above and in pursuant to its cardinal objective of enthroning good, purposeful and people oriented governance in Imo State, the salvage Imo project group paid an interactive visit on Senator Samuel Anyanwu fondly known as Samdaddy, the Peoples Democratic Party govrnorship candidate for the November 11, 2023 governorship elections at his country home at Amaimo in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
The group’s mission was to find out for the benefit of Imo people what Senator Anyanwu has in stock for Imolites.
In the interaction by the group led by it’s chairman Chief Jude Okafor, the PDP governorship candidate gave a far reaching insight into his action plan if by the grace of God he is elected into office, these include people oriented innovations, review of existing programmes and policies and introduction of novel ideas aimed at all inclusive government. A careful analysis of his proposed action areas portrays Senator Anyanwu as approvingly the modern version of a transformed populist whose mission is to involve the people in the governance process.
According to Senator Anyanwu, he will decentralise governance to periodically rotate the three Zones in the State. This he said will entail the full compliment of government, that is the governor, his deputy, executive members, secretary to the government, Chief of staff and other top appointees of government to relocate from Owerri which is the seat of government to the zone which is its turn precisely Okigwe and Orlu zones for about a week to conduct government business. This he pointed out will afford the governor and his cabinet to have a first hand information and appraisal of the challenges, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of the zone with a view to addressing them with great dispatch.
He believes that by this approach the people will be properly carried along by the government and this will in turn encourage them to be acquainted and support governments policies and programmes, and equally make the government to serve them better.
Consequently, he promised that within six months on assumption of office, he will conduct local government elections. He assured that the local government being the third tier of government shall function again in Imo with elected chairmen councillors, and others this will create job opportunities for the youths, our brothers and sisters in the rural areas, because according to him, the local government system is the closest government to the people. Obviously, not satisfied with the condition of local government in the state, and queried “where are the local government allocations accruing to the various local governments in the last four years?” We are talking about over 220.00 billion (two hundred and twenty billion naira) that can transform the local government areas” he stated.
Senator Anyanwu is displeased with the education sector in Imo State and wondered why there should be what he called “Outlandish Decay and Dysfunction” in Imo educational sector. He is not happy that Imo that used to take first position in education in the country has now regrettably been pushed down to the tenth position. He vowed to return Imo state to its former first position by rejigging and rejuvenating the primary and secondary schools infrastructures and operations in the state. He explained that primary and secondary schools are bedrocks of education and should not be toyed with.
The governorship hopeful said his administration will re-introduce schools supervision and will recruit experienced and qualified supervisors in order to sustain the good quality standards of education in the state.
Senator Anyanwu harped greatly on the development of the tourism sector of the Imo State. He disclosed that Imo State has abundant tourism destinations and attractions all over the Local Government Areas that are yearning to be adequately developed.
He said that the tourism sector in Imo is capable of generating over One million jobs for Imolites and this will no doubt drastically reduce insecurity in the state. He is not happy that a natural tourist destination like Oguta golf course, Motel and Blue lake as well as Imo Concorde Hotel which is the flagship hotel in Imo State are in comatose. He promised to redevelop and revamp them immediately he assumes office since they will offer employment to our teeming unemployed youths, he said.
Senate Anyanwu also expressed great dissatisfaction over the state of Imo rural roads, health and agricultural sectors and stated that he will declare a state of emergency in these areas.
While calling on Imolites to massively vote for PDP in the forth coming elections he gave the assurance that on his coming on board as the governor of Imo State he will “Make Imo Safe Again” with honesty, transparency, accountability and sincerity as his guiding principles.
