Heartland FC Mourns Late Imo SWAN Member, Anthony Okoroigwe
Heartland Football Club of Owerri has received with deep sadness the news of the passing of veteran journalist and respected member of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, Anthony Okoroigwe, who died at the age of 77.
Reacting to the demise, the Club’s Sporting Director, Robert Ogundu, described the late Okoroigwe as a towering figure in sports journalism whose impact on the media profession and sports development in Imo State would be difficult to erase.
“Anthony Okoroigwe was more than a journalist; he was a mentor, a custodian of values and a committed professional who gave his best years to building sports journalism in Imo State. Heartland FC is deeply pained by his passing,” Ogundu said.
“His selfless service to SWAN, especially in leadership roles, reflected his deep passion for the profession and his belief in strong institutions. He was a dependable ally of sports administrators and clubs, including Heartland FC, always offering constructive criticism and wise counsel,” he added.
“He related with sports stakeholders with respect and understanding, and his door was always open to younger journalists who needed guidance. His calm disposition and wealth of experience made him a unifying figure within the media space,” Ogundu stated.
Heartland FC extends its heartfelt condolences to the Okoroigwe family, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo State Chapter, and the entire media community over the irreparable loss.
