Excitement Builds as Game-On Afrika Grand Final Holds in Imo —Nwankwo Urges Players to Give Their Best
The Chief Executive Officer of the Game-On Afrika Tournament, Prince Emeka Nwankwo, has expressed delight as the 2025 edition of the competition reaches its grand finale this weekend in Obowo, Imo State.
The final rounds of the prestigious tournament are scheduled to hold on Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, at the Okenalogho Technical School, Obowo. Teams representing Abuja, Imo, Enugu, and Lagos will battle for glory in the concluding phase of the championship.
The semi-final playoffs will take place on Friday by 2:00 p.m., while the winners will face off in the grand final on Saturday, November 15, at the same venue. The champion will be crowned the Nigeria GOAT (Greatest of All Time) and will go on to face the Ghana GOAT in a continental clash ahead of next year’s Game of Afrika UK Tour.
Speaking ahead of the event, Prince Nwankwo commended the teams for their hard work and consistency throughout the competition.
“This tournament is more than a contest — it’s a celebration of young African talent,” Nwankwo said. “Every kick, every pass, and every goal tells the story of our continent’s resilience and creativity. What gives me joy is seeing how this platform is shaping future champions and connecting cultures through sports.”
He reaffirmed that the Game-On Afrika Tournament remains committed to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment, stressing that the initiative was designed to give young people opportunities to showcase their abilities on national and international stages.
“Our mission is to discover and nurture the next generation of African stars,” he added. “When these players step onto the pitch, they’re not just representing their states — they’re representing the future of African excellence.”
Fans across the country are expected to throng Obowo for what promises to be a thrilling two-day football spectacle as Nigeria’s finest young talents compete for continental glory.
