Global IMSU Alumni Holds Annual Convention, AGM August 18 …As Gov Uzodimma Gets “Grand Patron” Investiture

The Global Imo State University Graduates Alumni, GIMSUGA have announced line of programmes for its Maiden Convention/Annual General Meeting as well as Award presentation billed for Saturday August 19, 2023.

Disclosing the level of readiness to host the homecoming global event in a press briefing at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, New Owerri on Saturday 12th August 2023; the Global President of GIMSUGA, Dr. Anayo Chukwunonye Uhiara said the ceremony is a four-day fiesta that will actively engage and give all “Imo stars” and Imolites in general a sense of belonging to their Alma mater and Imo at large.

Dr Uhiara noted that the ceremony will highlight the talents, beauty and pageantry of the members of the Alumni Association from across the world.

He further stated that the event will feature a welcome party, aerobic exercises, town hall meeting, Health Walk, award presentation and Thanksgiving among other programmes.

“OnThursday, 17th of August will be the arrival and host Home Hospitality Reception at Golden Tulip Essentials, Okigwe Road, Owerri by 6pm. On Friday 18 of August, 2023 by 6:00am at Golden Tulip Essential will be for Aerobic exercises. By 10am we will converge for the Town Hall Meeting and House of Friendship Exhibition at IMSU Auditorium”

“On Saturday 18th August by 7am in the morning will be Health Walk and medical examination while for the Convention ceremony and Award Presentation and Annual General Meeting will commence by 11am”

“On Sunday, 20th of August, 2023 in Thanksgiving to God for a successful convention, we will go for Thanksgiving mass at St. Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy, IMSU by 9am after which members will be expected to depart to their various destinations”

The IMSU Global Alumni President stressed that the association has come to stay and serve the general interest of its members following its Registration with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on October 1, 2021.

He added that the theme of the Convention entitled “Alumni Associations and the Stabilization of Nigerian Universities For Industry 4.0 Era” is apt and well situated both in time and circulation, so as to offer graduates of the institution world over the opportunity to contribute their quota in promoting growth and development of their alma mater.

Representatives, while the Co- chairman, Nze Nwabueze Mbanaso, Assistant General Manager/ Regional Bank Head, Fidelity Bank PLC, Imo-Abia Region. The Imo State Governor will be the Special Guest of Honour”

“It is a yearly ritual that offers the opportunity for all graduates of the university world over in various felds of endeavor to converge as friends and to strengthen the bonds of friendship and plan ways to uplift one another and how to
contribute to the growth and development of the university. Among other activities, this convention also offers our members the opportunity to conduct the
Annual General Meeting (AGM) Where the governing structures and activities of the association will be reviewed in line with current realities; set agenda for the
association and other relevant issues.

The GIMSUGA President, Dr Uhiara revealed that “the convention will see to the investiture of the governor of Imo State- His Excellency- Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma as the Grand Patron of the Alumni Association by the virtue of his position as the Visitor to Imo state university and for being an Honorary Doctorate Degree holder of the university” while commending the governor for his well thought out appointment of Imo stars into his government.

“I want to show special gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Hope
Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State for the appointment of some Imo Stars into various positions of responsibility in his government. We are most pleased for this
gesture, especially on the appointment of our immediate past Global President- Prince Ezeala Ferdinand Akano, who is presently, the SSA to the governor and
Secondary Education Management Board. We have no doubts whatsoever that these great Imo Stars have the capacity to deliver on the tasks and responsibilities that have been assigned to them. We also want to thank the governor for the appointment of Prof. U.U. Chukwumaeze, SAN (an Imo Star), as the substantive Vice Chancellor to our alma mater. We also applaud and appreciate the governor
for the appointment of the current Registrar of the University, Dr. Julius Osuagwu (also an Imo Star)”

“We want to use this convention to also acknowledge and honour some individuals, some of whom are graduates of Imo State University and leaders of corporate organizations thạt have helped society. We are extending awards for meritorious service and
contributions to human development in different spheres of endeavor; Humanitarian service; community service; legislative research; entrepreneurship; human capital development; corporate governance, Honorary Relationship
Ambassadors, Special Alumni membership, etc, We consider
association as partners in progress and so we are recognizing these individuals”
