Four NBA Branches in Imo back Justice Nzeukwu’s Appointment as Ag. Chief Judge …Commend Uzodimma

The appointment of Hon. Justice T.N. Nzeukwu as Acting Chief Justice of Imo State has attracted cheers and goodwill messages from well-meaning citizens of the state including members of the Bench as four branches of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in the state describe the appointment as a welcome development.

The Chairmen of the four branches namely Prince B.O. Amukamara (Chairman, NBA Orlu Branch), I.I. Iheonu, Esq. (Chairman, NBA Okigwe Branch), Ndubuisi Uhuegbu
(Chairperson, NBA Mbano/Etiti Branch) and Chief Eze Ihekoronye
(Chairman, NBA Mbaise Branch) extended their congratulatory messages in a press conference held at NUJ Press Center Owerri on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

“We, the Chairmen of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Orlu Branch,
NBA Mbaise Branch, NBA Okigwe Branch, and NBA Mbano/Etiti Branch heartily congratulates His Lordship Hon. Justice TN. Nzeukwu on his appointment as the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Hope Uzodimma, CON, the Governor of Imo State on the 2nd of April, 2025″

“Consequently, we hereby state categorically that the decision is
acceptable to the majority of the members of the Nigerian Bar
Association (NBA), Imo State”

The Imo NBA Branch Chairmen equally extolled Governor Uzodimma for “lawfully and carefully performing his Constitutional duty under Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution as Amended”, noting that Justice Nzeukwu is not only the most Senior but a round peg in a round hole hence the most qualified for the job.

“We also thank the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma, CON, for lawfully and carefully performing his Constitutional duty under Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution as Amended by appointing Hon. Justice T.N.
Nzeukwu, who by records, both statutorily and constitutionally, is the most senior and qualified amongst the four (4) most Senior Serving Judges of the Imo State Judiciary, for the appointment as the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State”

According to the Chairmen, the decision of Governor Uzodimma, in
appointing Hon. Justice T.N. Nzeukwu as the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State after careful consideration of the provisions of Section 271 (4) of the Constitution, the official records of the four (4) most Judges in the Imo State Judiciary is well informed, legal and Constitutional.

“We once again wish His Lordship, Hon, Justice T.N. Nzeukwu, the Acting Chief Judges of Imo State, God’s guidance and protection”, the Chairmen concluded.
