OWERRI — It was meant to be just another demanding workday for the Deputy Rector (Academics) of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr. Obinna Iwueke. Deep in official duties at the institution’s ICT Centre of Excellence, Dr. Iwueke had no inkling that a masterfully executed, joyful “ambush” was quietly unfolding back at his office block.

In a heartfelt display of camaraderie and leadership, his principal, the Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, orchestrated a grand, unexpected birthday celebration that brought the administrative heart of the polytechnic to a vibrant standstill.

The Strategic “Trick” and the Grand Unveiling
What Dr. Iwueke thought was an urgent call returning him to his office turned into a moment of pure astonishment. As he opened his door, he was met with a beautifully decorated suite filled to capacity with top management, colleagues, and well-wishers.
Standing on ground to honour the academic titan were:
Principal Officers of the Polytechnic; Directors and Deans of Schools
Rectory Staff and Academic Staff.

Adding to the magic of the moment, a professional trumpeter immediately struck up soulful birthday tunes, instantly transforming the official space into an atmosphere of high celebration.

Spiritual Upliftment, Cake Cutting, and Social Grace
The festivities quickly transitioned into an electrifying worship session led by Dr. Austin Madu, setting a reverent tone of gratitude. The spiritual atmosphere culminated in a powerful, motherly prayer session offered by the Rector herself, invoking God’s continuous wisdom, sound health, and divine favour upon Dr. Iwueke’s life and service.

Following the spiritual session, Dr. Madu officiated the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake. The celebration reached an intellectual and social high point during the toast proposed by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Charles Obichere, whose top-notch mastery of social rudiments and eloquent delivery delighted everyone present.

Guests and colleagues were thereafter treated to a lavish spread of drinks and snacks, marking a relaxed afternoon of bonding, laughter, and high spirits across the polytechnic’s leadership hierarchy.

”I Am Completely Speechless”: The Deputy Rector Reacts
Cornered by the Rector’s Media Crew during the merriment, a visibly moved Dr. Iwueke struggled to find words to express his overwhelming gratitude.

”I am utterly taken aback. When I left my home for the ICT Centre this morning, I thought today would be all about files, memos, and routine academic oversight. To walk back into this magnificent arrangement, surrounded by my respected Rector, principal officers, and dear colleagues, leaves me deeply humbled.

My profound gratitude goes to my visionary Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe. She is not just an extraordinary leader but a sister and a pillar of support. Planning an ambushed celebration of this magnitude speaks volumes about her large heart, thoughtfulness, and dedication to fostering unity within our management team. This honour will remain etched in my heart for a very long time.” — Dr. Obinna Iwueke, Deputy Rector (Academics).

Official Goodwill Message from the Rector
In her official tribute issued through the Rectory Media Office, Dr. Igbokwe reaffirmed the institution’s deep appreciation for Dr. Iwueke’s contributions to governance and academic advancement:

”On this special day, we celebrate a true academic titan and a dependable partner in leadership. Dr. Obinna Iwueke’s selflessness, wisdom, and remarkable ability to bring harmony and clarity to complex management tasks have been a major driving force behind our collective successes.

As you continue to support the leadership in steering the affairs of our institution, it is my fervent prayer that Almighty God keeps you in sound health and grants you greater wisdom, knowledge, and discernment May this new chapter of your life be overflowing with peace, divine joy, and uncommon favour. Happy Birthday, my dear brother and colleague!*
