Flood Devastates Ukwuinyi Nnanano Nkwerre Community, Residents Cry Out for Government Intervention
By Chika Uju.
The people of Ukwuinyi Nnanano Nkwerre in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State have appealed to the State Government for urgent intervention following severe flooding that has caused significant damage to homes, buildings, fences and other properties in the community.
Recent heavy rainfall triggered extensive flooding in several parts of the community largely due to inadequate drainage systems and poor water channels in and around the area.
The persistent rainfall has resulted in serious damage to residential buildings and fences, leaving some structures at risk of further collapse
The situation has also heightened concerns about the safety and security of residents
Some residents have reportedly been rendered homeless, while properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed by the flood. Important personal documents and credentials were also reportedly lost, while foodstuffs and other household items were washed away by the floodwaters.
The situation has made movement increasingly difficult for residents as many people are unable to freely access their workplaces, farms and schools. Of particular concern is the reported loss of a life as a result of the flooding.
In view of the worsening situation, I humbly appeal to the Imo State Government and relevant agencies to urgently visit and inspect the affected areas, assess the extent of the damage and provide the necessary assistance to the affected residents.
There is also an urgent need for proper drainage channels and other ecological measures to be put in place to prevent further destruction and protect lives and property.
I therefore appeal to the State Government to save the souls of the people of Ukwuinyi Nnanano Nkwerre and other affected areas by responding swiftly to this ecological challenge before more buildings collapse and more lives and property are lost.
The people of Ukwuinyi Nnanano Nkwerre deserve urgent attention, protection and support at this critical time.
