“You Truncated Your Tenure, Not Owerri Zone –Group Faults Ohakim
A Peace advocacy, socio-political, and pro-democratic group, Salvage Imo has faulted the recent statements of Imo Ex-governor Ikedi Ohakim accusing the people of Owerri zone of jeopardizing and truncating his second term bid in 2011 against ‘Imo Charter of Equity’ over the years.
According to the group; the statements of the former governor are both anti-people and anti-democratic because “power is taken and not given”, adding that even where the said ‘Imo Charter of Equity’ exists to equally distribute governance of the state among its three zones, it still behooves on generality of Imo people to choose another candidate or return him for second tenure at the polls and not possibly a particular zone alone.
“It has been a tradition since 1999 where governorship aspirants from the three zones of Orlu, Okigwe, and Owerri join the governorship race; leaving Imo people with open cheque to choose across zones”
Addressing newsmen in Owerri last weekend, the leader of Salvage Imo group, Mazi Jude Okafor stressed that the accusations by Dr. Ohakim that Owerri people truncated his second term bid which doubled as the turn of Okigwe zone is counterproductive having shot himself on the foot during his first term, hence incurred the wrath of Imo people.
Mr. Okafor noted that the misinformation have been threading for weeks now hence the need to state the facts, adding that the accusation is a cheap blackmail of Owerri people.
“The claims and accusations by former governor Chief Dr. Ikedi Ohakim that Owerri people truncated his second term bid which doubled as the turn of Okigwe zone have been threading for weeks now hence the need to state the facts”
He said the indicting statements by Ohakim hold no water where the same Owerri people being fingered are not favoured and still yearning for same position been occupied by the Orlu zone for over 20 years.
The Salvage Imo Group leader however blamed Dr Ohakim for being arrogant and acting Lord during his reign as governor, adding that it was nobody’s fault that his actions and inactions towards Imolites at that time boomerang to jet him out of Douglas house.
The group leader equally advised the former governor to be mindful of his utterances and actions in order not to shoot himself again on the foot on his re-election hope in 2028 having indicted Owerri people and supporting the incumbent who is from Orlu zone for a second term.
Mazi Jude Okafor also called on Dr. Ohakim to retrace his steps in encouraging Orlu zone for another term; in agreement to succeed the incumbent in 2028 decrying that it is the pure definition of truncating the Imo Charter of Equity as pointed out.
