TSA will Curtail Financial Fraud, Boost, Consolidate Imo IGR – Accountant- General

The Accountant- General of Imo State, Deacon Igbo Donald, says the Treasury Single Account, TSA Policy introduced by Governor Emeka Ihedioha led government will curtail financial fraud, as well as boost and consolidate the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of the State to enable government perform its obligation to the people in accordance with due process and rule of law to cushion poverty and insecurity.

The Accountant General who stated this in an interview with journalists shortly after a One Day Workshop involving Permanent Secretaries, All Heads of Revenue Units of their various MDGs, Head of DAGs, Director of Accounts, Heads of Accounts of various MDAs among others held in Owerri recently, noted that a permanent solution to embezzlement of state funds has been proffered through the Treasury Single Account.

Deacon Igbo outlined that TSA is geared to block all loopholes in which IGR would never be stolen by individuals via private accounts, remarking that such a feat will boost economy and hence consolidate development as well as meet the needs of the people.

“Essence of TSA is to have consolidated funds so that IGR of the state will be properly accounted for. Such policy ensures blocking all loopholes through which individuals divert public funds so that government meets its obligations to the people”.

He warned those concerned against disobeying rules and regulations guiding TSA, as defaulters are liable to sanctions.

While commending Governor Emeka Ihedioha for introducing and implementing the TSA, Deacon Igbo expressed optimism that the policy will go a long way in harnessing the revenue generation of the state with regard to rebuilding the state to the benefit and comfort of all persons.

He thanked the participants for attending the Seminar even as they agreed to enliven the Policy of government on TSA.

The participants, thus requested that fraudulent Consultants be cancelled and removed from collecting revenue across the state if fraud in the collection and remittance of internally generated revenue in Imo State would be curtailed.

It would be recalled that the PDP led administration in Imo State effaced over 270 Bank Accounts owned by individuals allegedly operated by the APC led government through which State funds were supposedly diverted and stolen to the detriment of the less-privileged.

The Police and other security agents are involved in the effective implementation of the TSA Policy so that its objective is fully achieved and maintained.
