DNKI President Calls for Proactive Measures Against Flooding …stresses need for greater Humanitarian Service
The International President of De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI), Amb. Dr. Aniekanabasi Paulinus Alban, has called on members of the organisation worldwide to make humanitarian service a daily commitment and a defining feature of the brotherhood.
Alban who made the call while speaking to journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he is attending a stakeholders’ retreat hosted by the Abuja chapter of De Norsemen Kclub International, called on Nigeria Government at all levels to embark on proactive measures to tackle the menace of Flooding in the country.
He pointed out that yearly, Nigerians have lost properties and lives to flooding, adding that there is need to find a lasting solution to the threats of Flood in Nigeria.
Speaking ahead of the celebration of Norsemen Humanitarian Day, the DNKI president said the occasion should serve as a reminder of the organisation’s responsibility to care for vulnerable people, restore hope and improve the lives of those in need.
He said the greatness of Norsemen should not be measured by their numbers, positions, influence or material possessions, but by “the lives we touch, the burdens we help to carry, the suffering we help to relieve, and the hope we restore to humanity.”
According to him, humanitarian service must go beyond speeches, ceremonies and declarations, stressing that it should be demonstrated through practical action, compassion, sacrifice and a commitment to improving the human condition.
He urged members to respond to the challenges confronting communities, including poverty, hunger, illness, displacement, unemployment and loneliness.
“Where there is hunger, let us be willing to provide food. Where there is sickness, let us support access to healthcare. Where there is hardship, let us offer assistance. Where there is despair, let us restore hope,” he said.
Alban called on leaders, officers, members and stakeholders across the organisation’s chapters to make humanitarian service an essential part of their activities.
He listed medical outreaches, educational assistance, support for vulnerable families, care for the elderly and persons living with disabilities, emergency response and environmental initiatives among the interventions members should pursue.
The DNKI president also urged each unit to identify challenges in its immediate environment and develop practical, transparent and sustainable solutions.
He acknowledged that the organisation might not be able to solve every problem confronting humanity, but said its members could make a meaningful difference in the communities where they operate.
“When our individual efforts are united by a common purpose, the impact can become extraordinary,” he said.
Alban further advised members to ensure that humanitarian initiatives were driven by sincerity and compassion rather than publicity or personal recognition.
He said the strength of DNKI’s humanitarian mission depended on the unity, discipline, stability and collective responsibility of the organisation.
The international president urged members to manage their differences responsibly and ensure that internal challenges did not undermine their commitment to society.
“Our disagreements must never make us forget our responsibilities to society. Our internal challenges must never extinguish our compassion for those outside our walls,” he said.
He said DNKI should be known not only for the strength of its brotherhood but also for the positive impact of its deeds in communities.
Alban also challenged every member to reflect on the question: “Whose life will be better because I am a Norseman?”
He said the question should guide members’ decisions and inspire them to become better individuals and more responsible citizens.
The DNKI president stressed that humanitarian service should be a daily commitment rather than an annual event, noting that while Norsemen Humanitarian Day was celebrated once a year, the responsibility to serve humanity continued every day.
He called on members to build a legacy through lives saved, families supported, young people empowered, communities strengthened and hope restored.
Alban expressed appreciation to Norsemen who had contributed to the welfare of their communities and urged them to renew their commitment to compassion, unity and responsible leadership.
He concluded with the organisation’s slogan: “Dooty Izt Dooty! Service to Humanity!” and wished all Noble Norsemen worldwide a happy Norsemen Humanitarian Day.
