President Tinubu Hails Federal Poly Nekede, As Outgoing Rector Charges Students To Be Good Ambassadors Of Their Alma Mater At Convocation Ceremony
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the performance trajectory of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, describing it as one of the best Polytechnics in Nigeria.
In his address at the 21st Convocation of the institution held last Thursday, the President and Visitor to the Polytechnic, who was represented by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portharcourt, Prof Onwunari Georgewill, also commended the Rector for “being visionary and result-oriented,” which has seen to the “spate of infrastructural development in the institution.”
The President further gave the Rector a pass mark in the area of ICT with “a smart campus initiative aimed at leveraging on ICT to solve problems,” wishing him well in his future endeavours.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael C. Arimanwa, has charged graduating students to be great ambassadors of the institution. The Rector made this remark in his address at the Convocation.
In his words, “I charge you to continue to be good ambassadors of our alma mater, I charge you to exhibit the highest standards of morality, discipline and hardwork in your endeavours. Always define your integrity, being conscious that you have become role model of the younger ones, and it shall be well you.”
The outgoing Rector also reeled out his achievements which cut across infrastructure, human capital development, Information and Communication Technology, research and innovation development, human capital development, research and innovation for development and institutional reforms. He however listed a number of challenges which included inadequacy of hostel facilities and teaching manpower, among others, appealing for a quick intervention of the federal government in that regard.
Some notable individuals were conferred with Fellowship Awards among whom was Elder Erondu Uchenna Erondu. Best graduating students received a presidential handshake and special certificates from the institution.
High point of the ceremony was the formal conferment of National Diplomas and Higher National Diplomas on the graduands by the Rector, amid pomp and colours.
