Owerri Municipal Council Begins Sensitization, Sanitation Drive on Senator Hope Uzodinma Road
The Owerri Municipal Council Chairman Hon Bldr Chidiebere Emeribe JP, has commenced a sensitization and sanitation exercise along the newly redesigned Senator Hope Uzodinma Road formerly known as Douglas Road, aimed at promoting proper use of the upgraded infrastructure and maintaining environmental order within the corridor.

The initiative is designed to educate road users and residents on the effective use of the road’s new features, particularly the clearly demarcated pedestrian lane introduced to enhance safety and improve traffic flow for both motorists and pedestrians.

During the exercise, the Chairman toured various sections of the road, engaging traders and residents along the axis. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to urban planning regulations, especially regarding the use of pedestrian walkways and compliance with designated trading areas.

The exercise also featured immediate sanitation operations, during which youth leaders and members of the vigilante groups were mobilized to clear refuse, remove obstructions, and restore cleanliness across affected portions of the road.

The Chairman further addressed concerns relating to indiscriminate hawking, illegal occupation of road setbacks, and unauthorized structures encroaching on pedestrian pathways.
He reiterated his resolve to enforce environmental sanitation laws and protect public infrastructure from misuse and assured residents that the exercise will be sustained and extended until the newly rehabilitated road is used as designed to promote safety orderliness and sustainable urban development.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the municipal authorities to improve urban management and ensure responsible use of public infrastructure.
