OCDU Rejects Reinstatement of Okorocha’s Council Loyalists, says Uzodimma Cannot Absorb Them
By Ikenna Orioha.
Youths of Oguta Ameshi, operating under the aegis of Oguta Community Development Union, OCDU, have rejected the reinstatement of the Okorocha’s Local Government Council loyalists by the Owerri High Court, describing the judgment as injustice.
The Youth, in a statement made available to this newspaper by their President, Akeru Ben, said the Council was not dully elected as the election that brought it in was partially conducted.
The Youth President, who harped that the Council election was shamelessly conducted by ISIEC, frowned that the exercise was marred with clear fraud as the former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, allegedly hand- picked candidates loyal to him for the election so that the guber ambition of his son in-law, Uche Nwosu, materializes.
The youth described the verdict as a height of injustice perpetrated on the helpless Imo citizens and lovers of democracy, rule of law and due process, saying the Court should have considered the manner and method in which the said local government election was conducted, rather than trying to justify an alleged obvious fraud.
“God is not in a good relationship with injustice, an abomination rooted out at Imo State Federal High Court, Owerri, recently. Justice ought to be a fair play, not corruption intended. The least of the Nigeria lawyers and judges have demonstrated unworthiness of presiding over matters and at some point brought shame and miscarriage of justice into the Nigeria Judicairy System, subjecting the good lawyers to go back from the beginning when law was constituted till now and see if there has ever been any nation’s constutionary law that gives passage for a servant of a dead King to continue the position for upcoming King.
“INEC has the responsibility to conduct federal and state elections, just as ISIEC has the duty to conduct local government area election, but it is regrettably bad that a governor comes on board without any good plan of conducting Council election through out four years to eight years, instead appointed interim committee members, claiming to have elected a Council and yet controls local government allocation, only to conduct election within 8months of his remaining tenure. This is totally uncalled for and unacceptable to humility. Governors should be well prepared to do LGA election, not at the end of their tenure. Anyway, Governor Hope Uzodimma has also appointed his own IMC Chairmen who are also bound to stay and continue their duty pending when Council election will be done”.
Akeru posited that the government of Uzodimma “cannot absorb the past local government Council Chairmen of Rescue Mission government manned by a civilian dictator, Rochas Okorocha. This current administration will distance itself from such a misdemeanor from the so-called verdict reinstating them into a fresh and vibrant government of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
“This is a hard nut to crack by any responsible government. We, therefore, advise the waring factions to queue behind the Shared Prosperity Government to add to the development of Imo State”.
The youth of Oguta Ameshi, who pledged their continued unalloyed support and loyalty to their leaders: Rt Hon Goodluck Nana Opia, apex leader of Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru-East federal constituency, Hon Killian Uche-egbu and IMC Chairman, Oguta LGA, Hon Emma Mazi, vowed that they would continue to be law -abiding while contributing to the development of Niger Delta areas, Oguta and Imo State with a view to adding values to humility.
