NANS S’East Zone Passes Vote of Confidence on FUTO VC, Nnenna Oti …Elects Zonal Exco Council Members
National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has unanimously passed a Vote of Confidence on the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, Prof. Nnenna Oti.
In a Communique made available to newsmen after the just concluded South East NANS Zone F Convention held at Ebonyi State University, by all Union Presidents in South East, the Vote of Confidence on Prof. Nnenna Oti was due to her leadership quality which the union presidents in southeast added has that catapulted FUTO to greater height in academic excellence including students’ welfare as Oti’s administration major focus.
According to them, “NANS South East Zone F has unanimously applauded the first female Vice Chancellor of FUTO, Prof. Nnenna Oti, who hails from Ebonyi State, for her leadership dexterity in taking FUTO to greater height with academic excellence and students’ welfare being her major focus. NANS assures her administration absolute support in all facets and urges FG to give more leadership opportunities to females in the South East region”.

Speaking, the Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Students Engagement, His Excellency, Comr. Asefon Sunday Dayo appreciated the South East comrades for their support and dedication to student unionism and, most importantly, to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The SSA urged the stakeholders of NANS to remain resolute in their resolve to be patriotic citizens while assuring them of a greater Nation under President Tinubu.
Dayo thanked the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for the hospitality shown to NANS leadership in Ebonyi State, as well as guaranteed security for the success of the Convention.
The NANS Leaders remarked that the “Senators deliberated on the decline in South East participation on Nelfund Students Loans and appealed to the Universities Management to fund the awareness campaign in their respective Universities, saying the effects of the Students’ Loan are parts of the welfare package which was signed by President Tinubu.
They stressed that the Senators raised alarm on how the Institutions Managements across the South East are mismanaging TETFUND resources allocated to various Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and had instantly constituted South East NANS TETFUND Monitoring Team in collaboration with EFCC to investigate notable Institutions in the Zone and will submit a report in the next Senate session for deliberations.
“Senators appreciated Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for giving one million naira each to over one hundred and seventy-one students of Ebonyi State to enable them venture into Small and Medium Scale Businesses as part of his efforts in ending hardship among Ebonyi state youths and subsequently offered international scholarship to over 50 students of the state”.
Stating that insecurity in the South East was also deliberated especially as students are being kidnapped and sexually abused, the NANS Stakeholders had called on “the state government to provide effective security across our campuses and its environments, as it is the role of a responsible government to protect its citizens, as we appeal to states Commissioners of Police to include students leaders in the security network as informants”.
The NANS Stakeholders, without mincing words, told the university management to employ qualified former student leaders across the Zone during recruitments, as they will always play a pivotal role in the peace and progress of the campus communities in the region.
