Mass defection looms in Imo Labour Party over plot to thwart Chief Charles Ugochukwu’s emergence as State Chairman …Mazi Excel Ochiama upgrades to LP- NWC
Imo Labour Party (LP) is currently in dilemma that is likely to undermine its strength and chances in the forthcoming general election due to the emerging power tussle from one Barr. Ezerioha Nelson who hails from Oru East LGA and a serving Legal Adviser of Imo LP who now want to assume the position of the State Chairman of the party as an opposition to the emergence of Chief Charles Ugochukwu Imo Labour Party Chairman.

Chief Charles Ugochukwu
Recall that Chief Charles Ugochukwu who also hails from Orlu zone senatorial district took over from Mazi Excel Ochiama-Nwaneri as the State Chairman of Labour Party upon the victory of Ochiama into National Working Committee of the party.

Ezerioha Nelson has been accused of being the mechanism to destabilize the formidable and stability existing in the party thereby attempting to take over even when the seat of State chairman has been zoned to Orlu zone and Chief Charles Ugochukwu is also from the Orlu zone.

Report has it that the 27 LGA Chairmen, 305 ward chairmen and their executive have sounded it loud to leadership that in the event of changing the current power under Chief Charles Ugochukwu and Mazi Excel Ochiama-Nwaneri, in favour of Ezerioha Nelson, the entire structure of Labour Party in Imo will work otherwise and would be the end of the party in Imo.
“There are persons who emerged victorious in the Congresses held recently and that should be respected, except they want the party’s death in Imo. Asides mass defection, several litigations would be the order of the day if it happens.” They vowed.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the Oru East LGA chairman of Labour Party furthered that “if it happen, there will be no LP in Oru East as all the foundation members would defect to another party”.
Other speakers have argued that Ezerioha Nelson hails from Oru East LGA been the Local Government of the seating Imo State Governor and Council of the current ruling opposition party, APC Imo State Chairman, even as anonymous accounts claimed that he is working for unseen hands given that prior to this moment, Nelson have never showed up or participated in LP activities in Imo State.
