Insecurity: DGov Irona Condemns Cult Killing at Imo Community…Faults Okorocha Over Rising Violence
Ikenna Orioha, Owerri.
As the people of Ilile community, Ohaji/Egbema local government area, Imo State, were thrown into mourning over the gruesome killing of 5 innocent persons of the area, Deputy Governor of Imo State, Gerald Irona, has condemned the killing, describing it as dastard act.
Irona, while regretting the barbaric killing perpetrated by the unknown cultists from the pit of hell, said violence bedevilling the oil and gas bearing areas of Imo State was being fueled by the former Governor, Rochas Okorocha who he accused of arms proliferation with the abysmal use of gullible Ohaji/ Egbema and Oguta boys and men to do violence.
The Deputy Governor who had audience with the Niger Delta Media Forum, NMDF, at his Office, Government House, Owerri, on Thursday, recounted that the “killings and criminality rampant at the Niger Delta Region is as a result of arms proliferation by past government abysmally led by Okorocha to the gullible men and boys of ISOPADEC who are today using the arms against their own people.”
“This is not a pleasant time for me. Let these boys stop causing disaster for us so that development can thrive”.
He assured government will work with relevant security agencies to stop the killing and other criminal activities in Imo.
He blamed past administration for engineering the violence, saying retributive justice awaits Okorocha and his accomplices for causing disaster in the State.
On the issues of herdsmen attack on Adapalm Plantation and Ogbokofia community, Ohaji/Egbema, Ironna told the people to be vigilant as government will address the issues by deploying security personnel therein.
As regards ISOPADEC, the Deputy Governor reflected that the Emeka Ihedioha led government is “taking some steps to reposition the Commission to meet the welfare of the people for which it was established.”
“Nobody sacked any worker of ISOPADEC. But we are bent on efficiency and meeting the social amenities at the oil and gas producing communities of Imo State which have been denied better living and development by previous governments”.
The Deputy Governor who noted that the Assa, Ohaji, Gas Plant when completed would position Niger Delta Region as the economic hub of Imo State, charged the people to actively cultivate on their arable land while allowing their mineral resources to bring fortune, not disaster.
While thanking NDMF for the courtesy visit, Irona advised the journalists to use their Pen effectively to expose evil ravaging the society in order to install egalitarian society where peace and development thrive immensely.
In their remarks and vote of thanks, Chairman of NDMF, Elder Chukwuemeka Ike and Mr Basil Ogbuji of Radio Nigeria, appreciated the Deputy Governor for according them warmth reception, pledging their continued parley with the PDP led government to achieve goal.
