IMSAA Partners CAN on Outdoor Advertising Compliance

Imo Signage and Advertisement Agency, IMSAA and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Imo State Chapter have joined forces to ensure that Christian religious bodies in the state comply with the state’s outdoor advertising law which empowers lMSAA to regulate, manage and control outdoor advertising structures in the state.

According to a press release issued and signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs and Human Resources of IMSAA, Michael Onuoha, both organisations reached this understanding when the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of IMSAA, Honourable Chibuzor Umunnakwe led the management of the agency on a stakeholder visit to the Chairman of Imo State Chapter of CAN, Reverend (Dr.) Eches D. Eches on Wednesday September 30, 2020.

Honourble Umunnakwe disclosed that IMSAA holds CAN in high esteem hence his decision to lead his team on the bridge-building visit to the CAN Chairman.

He stated that IMSAA has a mandate to regulate the outdoor advertismg environment in the state and carries out its function with all sense of fairness and responsibility.

“IMSAA is governed by the law establishing it. The agency has no bias for any group or religion. We are fair and equitable in our dealings With all religions and sects. We also expect that all those who come within the ambit of the law establishing IMSAA should obey it irrespective of creed, race, political leanings or other affiliations”

The IMSAA General Manager said the visit is mainly aimed at establishing a cordial working relationship with Christian religious bodies and organizations in the state which CAN represents.

“Our Visit today is because of our need to work with all churches in harmony to achieve our respective objectives and to remove all areas of real and imagined conflict.

He added that this becomes even more necessary because according to him, about 45% of outdoor structures in the state are owned by religious bodles.

Responding, Rev. Dr. Eches applauded IMSAA for the visit and for choosing the part of proactive rather than reactive engagement and pledged cooperation from CAN.

He said, “we don‘t want our members to flout the law. We are not here to encourage lawlessness. We will Intervene proactively to get our members to comply With the law”

The CAN Chairman also requested for the relevant guidelines for erection of billboards and other outdoor signs to enable him effectively sensitise members of his organisation on their responsrbilities.

Note, IMSAA was established in December 2019 to manage, regulate and control the signage and outdoor advertising environment in Imo State. This mandate Includes but not limited to regulation and control of placement of billboards and other outdoor signs, signages in business outlets, brand activations and events, temporary signs, and mobile advertisement, among others.
