Imo SWAN Urges Gov Uzodimma to Honour Heartland Queens After Historic Federation Cup Run
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has praised Heartland Queens FC for their outstanding performance in the 2026 President Federation Cup and urged the Imo State Government to officially host the team in recognition of their historic achievement.
The call was contained in a press statement jointly signed by the Chairman of Imo SWAN, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, and the Secretary, Tunde Liadi.
Although the Owerri side lost 6-5 on penalties to Nasarawa Amazons after a 1-1 draw in regulation time in the grand finale, Imo SWAN described their performance as courageous and worthy of celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka commended the resilience and determination shown by Coach Obi Ogbala’s team throughout the competition.
“Losing the trophy in such heartbreaking circumstances was painful, but Heartland Queens gave a remarkable account of themselves. They fought gallantly, showed immense character and demonstrated the mentality of champions throughout the competition.
“Their outstanding performance has projected Imo State positively on the national stage. They may not have won the trophy, but they have earned the admiration and respect of football lovers across the country.

“We also appeal to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, to receive and host the team as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement. Such recognition will boost the players’ morale and inspire them to achieve even greater success.”
Imo SWAN noted that Heartland Queens enjoyed the most impressive Federation Cup campaigns by a women’s club from the South-East till date.
The team retained the Imo State FA Cup title before defeating Dragon Fury Ladies 7-0 in the Round of 32 and Ahudiyannem Queens 4-0 in the Round of 16.
They then beat Ibom Angels 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the quarter-finals and overcame FC Robo Queens 2-1 in the semi-finals to reach their first-ever President Federation Cup final.
Heartland Queens scored 16 goals and conceded only four throughout the competition, highlighting their impressive balance in attack and defence.
Their appearance in the final also made history as the first women’s club from the South-East to reach the President Federation Cup final.
Imo SWAN reaffirmed its pride in the team’s achievement and expressed confidence that with continued support and investment, Heartland Queens will build on this success and challenge for more honours in the coming seasons.
