Imo NUJ Moves to Checkmate Fake Journalists …As Eze Adiuku Emerges Council’s Asistant Secretary
The members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Imo State Council have resolved to curb the activities ofquacks in the profession.
At a State Congress held on Wednesday 5th August, 2020, the Union resolved to monitor the activities of its members and ensure that only those with requisite academic qualification would be recognized as the profession is not an all comers affair.
In a communique signed by the Council Secretary, Juliet Dim, Imo NUJ leadership is to undertake a “sensitization tour of Chapels/media houses in the state to educate NUJ members on the need for proper revalidation and documentation”
According to the communique, journalists are charged to be objective in their news reports as the union further called on media owners to ensure they pay their staff.
The NUJ Congress urged “aggrieved” members of the Union to have a rethink and yield to reconciliation as this would bring progress in the Union”
Imo NUJ also “enjoined the state government to expedite action on road rehabilitation for free flow of traffic in the metropolis and its environs as well as curb the excesses of taskforces in the state as they are portraying the shared prosperity government of the state in bad light”
It also “appealed to the state government to ensure that salaries and pensions are paid as and when due, and urged it to look into the challenges affecting the workers and pensioners”
Meanwhile, Mr Eze Adiuku at the Congress emerged as the new Assistant Secretary of Imo NUJ.
Mr Adiuku’s nomination received unanimous support from members in a bye-election to fill the vacant position.
An alumnus of University of Calabar, Adiuku also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the prestigious International Institute of Journalism Abuja and has worked with various media organisations including CityStar Newspaper. He is also the Imo State Chairman, Forum of Newspaper Editors.
