Imo ENTRACO Begins ‘Operation Remove Broken Down Vehicles, Scrabs On Roads
Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission, ENTRACO has authorized the services of Donpat Classic Multi Concept Ltd to check the menace of dumping broken down vehicles and scrabs on the roads across the State.
Earlier, government has warned Imo residents against the indiscriminate dump of scrabs and broke down vehicles on the roads as it directed all those who abandoned their broken down vehicles or litter the roads with scrabs to remove them forthwith.
ENTRACO frowned that the situation is one of the causes of road accidents, obstructions and also causes floodings, as some of them block the water flow during rainy season
In the letter confirming the authorization, dated 6th May, 2020, ENTRACO through its legal department, said it had “empowered the agency to tow broken down vehicles and scrabs off from all the roads and environs, as well as ensure that the defaulters are punished”.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri last weekend on behalf of the agency management, Mr. Onyema Nwachukwu, noted that the agency is “committed at ensuring that the government directives are carried to the latter”,
promising that the agency will work within the confines of the law and will engage trained personnel, who will neither harass the people nor infringe on their rights, in the course of discharging their duties.
Nwachukwu added that the “primary purpose of the agency is to encourage and complement the government commitment toward ensuring that all roads in the state are free from obstructions and clean”.
According to him, “the new government directives is a welcome development and I believe that the people will comply strictly to it.
For us who are going to enforce it, we will do our best to ensure that the people’s rights are respected as we discharging our duties.”
