The State Police Command has displayed a large quantity of arms and ammunition so far mopped up from various parts of the State following the mop-up of illegal arms in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim K. Idris.

Displaying the guns numbering several hundreds, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Chris Ezike said among the arms recovered were English pistols, locally made guns, pump action, AK47, AR70, Madison riffles, double barrel guns both long and cut-to-size, as well as large ammunition.
Mr. Ezike said the successful recovery of the arms was made possible by dint of hard work of the policemen in the command and cooperation of good citizens of the state who willingly returned theirs.
He said the exercise was on-going and expressed hope that more arms and ammunition would be recovered.
The Commissioner of Police who disclosed the benefit of the mop up/recovery exercise said it would result in reduction in the number of light and small but dangerous weapons in the State, as firearms are facilitators of violence.
He added that with the exercise it would check the activities of would be political thugs as 2019 general election approaches.
Mr. Chris Ezike who said the command would not relent in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities in the state hinted that some of the prohibited firearms included artillery of all sorts, apparatus for the discharge of any explosives of gas diffuse projectile, rocket weapons, machine-guns and firearms such as pump action gun of all categories.
