Governor Uzodomma Explains What Imo Elders Council Mean
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has explained that the Imo Elders Council serves as an advisory body established by law to regularly interface with Government in the discharge of its Constitutional mandate to the people.
Governor Uzodimma made the explanation at the inauguration of the Elders Council held at the Sam Mbakwe EXCO Chambers Government House Owerri.
According to him, the Imo Elders Council is a conscience of the State through, which both the Government and the Governed are brought together to collectively appreciate the challenges and progress of the State within a time frame, pointing out that the Council is made up of resourceful people who are prepared to say the truth, no matter the consequences, stressing that they are men and women who are Noble and passionate with enormous wealth of experience.
Governor Uzodimma maintained the views of the elders council would enrich Government decisions, policies and programs, as well as serve as a two way communication channels by bringing the needs and feelings of the people to Government be and observe Government response to the people.
Governor Uzodimma further elucidated that consultation and participation by all the component of the society is necessary for good Governance, adding that he acknowledged the fact that it is the duty of Government to provide infrastructure and ensure the protection of lives and property of citizens.

He challenged members of the Council to beam their searchlight on him and those he appointed into Government, adding that they should also feel free to raise alarm if they derailed on their mandate.
The Governor reechoed that he is not in Government to corruptly enrich himself and his family, stressing that his dogged fight against corruption in the State is a direct invitation for people to put their searchlight on him, stressing that his administration will not relent to entrench order in governance.
He charged the Elders to draw Government attention to the needs of the people in the rural areas especially as it concerns the youth.
Responding, the Chairman of the Elders Council, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya expressed gratitude to the Governor for finding them worthy to serve in that capacity, saying that it is a testimony of the confidence he reposed on them.
He gave an assurance that they would carry our their assignment to the best of their abilities.
Meanwhile, in his remark, the Traditional Ruler of Ihim Autonomous Community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Eze Oliver Ohanwe said that the Council would ensure peace, unity and stability, as well as enhance development in the State.
The body is made up of former Governors, former Ministers, foremost Traditional Rulers and Educationists, Captains of Industry and indeed who is who in Imo State who are none partisan.
