Governor Ihedioha: Leave the Past, Focus on Today and the Future of Imolites and Imo State
By ThankGod Emeh, Owerri.
The Eastern Heartland, Imo State has always taken and have continued to take over the front pages of many national newspapers and almost all the local tabloids in the state as regards the Imo seat of power, the People’s House formerly known as Douglas House, Owerri.
Imo State has made both the good and bad as well as ugly appearances on the media before, during and after the heated 2019 electioneering especially the later which is of great concern to the citizenry of knowing whom to vote for and the workings of the government of the day. But it baffles one to see the contents of what the media serves the public about the state with disregard of what the messages portends.
The Imo 2019 governorship campaigns took tremendous dimension ever in the history of the state where all the makeup of the state were brought to the table by the handful of about 50 candidates who participated in the election to right the wrongs in the governance of the state.
Significantly, the heated 2019 Imo guber election produced His Excellency, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as the 6th civilian governor of the state to pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years but the way and manner the present government has continued to criticize and talk down the projects of the immediate past administration led by the former governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha as expected of an opposition government is quite annoying to an extent that the people are getting tired of such stories they already know and have acted upon through the ballot to change the powers that be in order to change the narrative.
It is a verified fact that the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha performed creditably well and badly in high places but the fact that he got it wrong in some areas does not cloud the good works to his credit on infrastructure and other administrative strides.
Democracy as defined by Abraham Lincoln as the government of the people, by the people and for the people should be the order of the day, since the all that matters in Imo and society is only the people, then it is high time the present administration left the past and the mistakes of his predecessor and focus on what Imolites so much desired from him now as well as as the future of the state and generations to come. Governor Ihedioha should study the success and mistakes or failures of the immediate past government; background himself with the right think-tank personnel in order to overturn the narrative instead of every day stories or lashing of one mistake or the other made for it is time to move on and Rebuild Imo State of our collective dreams.
Rebuilding Imo is a holistic and integral process and a much commendable one at that but with the way criticisms of the past has characterized the move and programme of the current government, there will be a lot of distractions to battle with in the long run but a matured approach of more actions than words would favour Imolites because Actions speaks louder in every situation.
Appreciatively, what Imolites need at all cost in this dispensation is a well restructured and rebuilt Imo as well as getting the wrong things back on track than witch-hunting and abandoning old significant projects. The Assertion that “Government is a Continuum” should be closely watched and followed in all ramifications as regards Infrastructure, Health, Education, Sports, Agriculture and what have you.
I must commend you Sir, His Excellency Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha for your on ground assessment of the issues of utmost concern surrounding the state and the timely constitution of needful committees to look into identified issues. I wish to add here or suggest that you recruit and bring on board young, vibrant and youthful minds as well as women and new names to contribute their quota in the advancement of the state other than the old names we have seen so far a s regards their contributions in the past administrations of Chief Achike Udenwa, Sir Ikedi Ohakim and Senator Rochas Okorocha.
To some people now; I’m being political or speaking from one political party or another but I simply and honourably remain a journalist doing my calling and by such duty the media is the watchdog of society. As duty calls, journalists were too busy to vote in the elections and for me I would have voted for Jesus and His Own Candidate but as we already have the Messiac governor in His Excellency, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, we all pray and wish him well while expecting the much desired and yearned change from him.
