CLEEN Foundation canvases increased women in security sector institutions
By Chigozie Uzosike…
A nongovernmental organization that promotes public safety, security, and social justice in Nigeria, CLEEN Foundation has called for increased number of women in Security Sector Institutions in Nigeria.
Speaking during the training and launch of multi-stakeholder implementation and monitoring committees in Owerri on Wednesday, the Executive Director of
CLEEN Foundation, Mr. Peter Maduoma said, “We recognize the need for strengthening Women Peace and Security in Imo state and this requires skilled, well-coordinated, and data-driven monitoring across the value chain of peace and conflict resolution. Through a well mainstreamed gender mechanism and the establishment of a functional monitoring body, we strongly believe that the key objectives of the National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) can be achieved and improved upon”.

According to the Executive Director, he noted that the training will build the capacity of committee members on WPS principles, implementation frameworks, and monitoring tools, enhance coordination among government institutions, security agencies, and civil society actors on the WPS agenda and to develop state-specific implementation and reporting frameworks aligned with the National Action Plan on WPS.
“The foundation will ensure that a functional Imo State WPS implementation and monitoring committee is established and inaugurated, have improved technical capacity of stakeholders on WPS frameworks, reporting, and accountability mechanisms and develop state-level implementation road maps for WPS Action Plans, strengthen collaboration among security agencies, ministries, traditional institutions, and women’s groups and ensure enhanced visibility and commitment of state governments to advance the WPS agenda”
