“Chidiebube Okeoma, Not a Registered NUJ Member”– Imo NUJ Reacts, Condemns Molestation Of Citizens By Security Agents
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council has condemned in totality the molestation of Imo citizens by security agents no matter the status or profession.
The council made the condemnation while reacting to the alleged beating of an Owerri-based Correspondent of Punch Newspaper -Chidiebube Okeoma some days ago.
The leadership of Imo NUJ in a Press Release issued and signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Chris Akaraonye and Secretary Juliet Dim said it is constrained to make concrete clarifications on the alleged beaten journalist and as well condemn all manner of abuse on Imolites and Nigerians at large by security agents.
Imo NUJ states that the Punch Correspondent in Imo, Chidiebube Okeoma is not a registered member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council.

“That if it is true that the Punch Correspondent in Imo State was beaten by overzealous security personnel, it condemned such act”
“That the said Chidiebube Okeoma is not a registered member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council, as erroneously believed”
The Union advises the general public to note that not all journalists are registered members of the union stressing that bona fide members of the union knows the constitutional practice of the practice.
“That the public should be wary of the activities of unscrupulous persons who tend to mislead them that every practicing journalist is a registered member of the NUJ”
“That the members of the Union know the ethics of the profession and are bound to follow the rules guiding the practice of journalism profession”
