Attack on Imo Journalist: NUJ Satisfied With NSCDC Commandant Intervention, Reconcile Differences …lauds Commandant’s media-friendly disposition

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council has expressed happiness and satisfaction in the well calculated intervention of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant in the state, Raji Ibrahim in the reported attack on an Imo based journalist, Ndubueze Nwokoma by an operative of the NSCDC, noting that the case is amicably resolved with the union.
The Imo NUJ stated this weekend in a press release issued and signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Chris Akaraonye and Secretary, Juliet Dim after interfacing with the leadership of NSCDC, Imo State Command.
According to the release, “The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council is pleased to announce that the matter on the recent reported attack on an Imo based journalist, Ndubueze Nwokoma by an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has been amicably resolved following the quick intervention of the State NSCDC Commandant, Raji Ibrahim”
It added that “At a meeting between officials of the NSCDC Command led by Commandant Raji Ibrahim and Executives of Imo NUJ led by the Chairman, Comrade Chris Akaraonye, on Friday 19th of June, the Commandant disclosed that he had already set up an investigation with a view to sanctioning any operative found culpable in the matter”
The lengthy discuss between the Imo NUJ and NSCDC Imo State Command had the relationship between the institutions over the years reviewed for a way forward.
In his speech at the meeting, the NSCDC Commandant, Raji Ibrahim noted that the Command has always had a very cordial working relationship with journalists and had maintained an open door policy with them and would want the relationship to continue.
The NSCDC boss urged journalists, who may have any misunderstanding with his officers and men, to always endeavour to call his attention to such.
Moreso, Commandant Raji Ibrahim, while condemning the act on the journalist, on behalf of the officers and men of the Command, rendered an apology to the NUJ and the victim Ndubueze Nwokoma.
In his response, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Chris Akaraonye lauded Commandant Raji Ibrahim for his prompt intervention into the issue, adding that some officers will always exhibit overzealous traits in their conducts.
Comrade Akaraonye assured the Commandant of the continued cordial relationship and partnership between NUJ and the NSCDC in Imo.
Nwokoma in the spirit of maturity and acceptance, also expressed satifisfaction with the way and manner the Commandant handled the issue.
NSCDC officials in attendance at the meeting include the Commandant’s second in command, Deputy Commandant Akusie Sparks, Head of Intelligence and Investigation, Assistant Commandant Yusuf Samuel, the CSO of the Command, Assistant Commandant Dandaura Appolos and the PRO Chimeziri Lowell, while NUJ team are Comrades Chris Akaraonye; chairman, Emma Odibo; vice chairman, Eze Adiuku, ex-officio member.
