APC Sweeps Victory at Imo Chairmanship, Councilorship Polls as ISIEC Declares Results

The long-awaited Imo Chairmanship and Councilorship elections billed for September 21, 2024, have come to a conclusive end as the Imo State Electoral Commission, ISIEC, adjudge the exercise to be free, fair, and credible.

Addressing journalists on Sunday, September 22, 2024, shortly after declaring the results of the election, the ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu emphasized that the exercise which “took place across the 27 LGAs, 305 wards and 4758 polling units in the state”, experienced peace and transparency, adding that the Championship and Councilorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all the votes to emerge winners all round.

“We have just concluded the 2024 Imo state Council elections. This is the journey we started in June after unveiling the programmes and processes.

“The election took place in 305 electoral wards of Imo state, 27 LGAs across 4758 polling units.

“The election was very peaceful, fair, transparent, and credible”, he noted while reiterating the unalloyed outcome of the election.

Stating the process and conduct of the election, the ISIEC Boss said the Commission duly observed the primary elections of 17 political parties that participated in the election; out of 19 registered political parties and as well gave them all level playing grounds to run for the election.

Ejiogu however commended the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Security Agencies and other stakeholders for their uncommon commitment and support to carrying out the successful exercise.

“As clearly enunciated in our guidelines, the processes began where we consulted INEC, Imo Orientation Agency as well security agencies in the state and the lead agencies for elections in Nigeria such as the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Navy, Civil Defence, Federal Road Safety Corps, Customs, Correctional Service among others.

The Newly elected Executive Council Chairmen across the 27 LGAs -all from APC include:

4. Oguta – Ifeanyi Nani

8. Ihitte Uboma – Obioha Ndukwe
9. Obowo – Obioma Iroegbu Johnson
10. Ideato South – Okechukwu Okwara
11. Ohaji/Egbema – Marcellinus Chinasa Amadi
12. Isiala Mbano – Chika Isreal Okoroike
13. Ahiazu Mbaise – Larry Obinna Chikwe
14. Aboh Mbaise – Chief Iheukwumere Alaribe Henry
15. Ehime Mbano – Chief Uche Nwodu
16. Ezinihitte Mbaise – Chinedum Nwachukwu
17. Ideato North – Chukwunonso Okpalaeke

“For the Councilorship positions: 305 Councilors across the length and breadth of Imo state as duly expressed in the 4758 polling units; APC swept the poll, this is the situation and it is verifiable”

The Chairman however urged aggrieved candidates to approach the commission among other channels to register their interests and complaints, while noting that ISIEC gave room for robust political activities, for the parties and candidates to sell their programmes and manifestos hence the people have made their choice.
