Accidental Discharge: NSCDC Officer Kills Imo North Senatorial Candidate in Imo
ThankGod Emeh
It was another rain of tears in Imo on Sunday, January 26 2020 as an operative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC shot his boss – the 2019 senatorial candidate of the Action Alliance in Imo North Senatorial District, Ndubuisi Emenike.
According to eye witnesses, the incident took place around 5pm during a victory party for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Miriam Onuoha who won the rerun election in Okigwe North Federal Constituency held on Saturday, 25th January 2020.
The tragedy struck at the APC’s candidate house at Umunachi in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had announced the APC candidate, Miriam Onuoha, as the winner of the election.
News reports had it that the NSCDC officer who was a security attachee to the AA senatorial candidate, Ndubuisi Emenike popularly known as “Ototo Nwa” had escorted his boss to the victory party before shooting him.
A source who spoke to Punch earlier said the officer was shooting consistently into the air and mistakenly shot his boss which brought the victory party to an abrupt end.
“Ndubuisi Emenike has been shot by one of his security aides. He was shot during APC victory party at Isiala Mbano LGA. He was shot at his lower abdomen by his aide, an NSCDC officer. This is very tragic and very unbelievable. We pray he makes it. The incident has shattered our victory party.”

The victim who fell unconsciousnessly was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, St Joseph’s Hospital, Umunachi, before he was later rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, in an ambulance where all measures taken to keep him alive proved abortive.
Speaking to News Corner Media after the ugly incident on the overbearing excuse of accidental discharge by armed force men, an NSCDC Officer in the state who pleaded anonymity frowned that such word doesn’t exist in an experienced officer’s dictionary adding that “Sometimes accidental discharge seems to be a coverup, when some trigger-happy uniform men, kill intentionally or out of carelessness”
The officer stressed that “Accident discharge doesn’t exist if really an armbearing officer has gone through a thorough training on how to handle a rifle because before a bullet in a magazine of a particular rifle goes off, one must have chambered. Chambering means pushing a single bullet upwards and getting it positioned in such a manner that it can’t return to the magazine again, this is to say, one is getting ready to pull the trigger, if when one chambers, he or she still have a safety measure that helps cover the bullet already chambered from flying out, thereby making it difficult to go off even wen one have pulled the trigger. The if an officer have taken all these step, it then means one has intentionally done something and not by accident”
The death of Ndubuisi Emenike is coming few weeks after the death of Senator Ben Uwajimogu who also contested and won the Imo North senatorial district election in 2019.
The ugly news has caused sleepless nights to well meaning Imolites, Nigerians and beneficiaries world over whom the deceased has touched their lives charitably.
