Women Journalists Get New National Executives

A new team of national executives to pilot the affairs of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ for the next three years emerged at the 10th triennial national delegates conference in Minna Niger state.
They include , national president Mrs Ladi Bala, vice president Mrs Lilian Okonkwo Ojuba, secretary Mrs Helen Udofia, treasurer Mrs Fatima Rashid and Mrs Stella Igboka zone C vice president for south east among others.
During the opening ceremony of the delegates conference held at the Justice Idris Kutigi international conference centre, Minna, Niger state, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, represented by his deputy, acknowledged that journalism has come a long way in Nigeria and saluted the resilience, determination and dedication of women journalists in contributing towards national building, pledging to render all needed support to ensure Niger state NAWOJ is the best in the federation.
He underscored the need for women journalists to acquire ICT competence and proficiency to operate in the contemporary digital world.

In a paper presentation on the theme of the conference, ‘ Female journalists in contemporary Nigeria’, former Executive Director, NTA network, Mrs Eugenia Abu, stressed that it was necessary to understand that media work is a joint venture between men and women and should both be given equal opportunities.
The Minister for Gender and social development Dame Pauline Tallen in her good will message advocated that women be given more visibility in all areas of human endeavors, reiterating the call for women to join forces in the fight against discrimination,rape and all forms of gender based violence.
She assured that her ministry would remain in the fore front promoting gender mainstream ing policies, women participation and inclusiveness in corporate governance and all sectors of the economy.
Highlights of the conference included the presentation of awards of excellence , most gender friendly, and achievement of increased women representation in government appointments to Governors of Kano, Kwara and Niger states respectively.
