Victory: With Alex Iwobi magical strike, Nigeria become first African team to qualify for 2018 World Cup.

Praises for the victorious outing of the Super Eagles against Zambia has continued to pour in from across the country.

Iwobi was Nigeria's match-winner as they booked their passage to next summer's World CupArsenal’s Alex Iwobi scored Nigeria’s only goal as the Super Eagles became the first African side to secure qualification for the World Cup.

A 1-0 victory over Zambia in Uyo gave Salisu Yusuf’s side an unassailable six point lead at the top of CAF Group B.

The Arsenal forward came off the bench to convert a low cross from Anorthosis Famagusta right-back Shehu Abdullahi and break the deadlock in a nervy game.

 Nigeria’s win also saw Chelsea full-back Ola Aina, on loan At Hull, make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles.

Aina and Iwobi are among those in the Nigerian squad who have come through the England youth setup before declaring themselves for the Super Eagles.

Today’s other third round ties saw a 0-0 draw between Uganda and Ghana hand Egypt the ascendancy in Group E whilst South Africa defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 to keep their hopes of qualification for Russia 2018 alive.
