Ukwuinyi Women Unveil Hummer Bus, Highlight Land Purchase, Scholarships, Youth Empowerment

The Ukwuinyi Women Nnanano Nkwerre have officially presented their newly purchased Hummer bus, marking another major community development initiative under the leadership of their President General, Golden Lady (Amb.) Chika Uju.

The presentation, held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Village Hall, attracted women, their husbands, sons, daughters, in-laws, friends and well-wishers, with the vehicle formally presented to their husbands (Ndi Di ha) for their blessings.

Speaking on the ceremony, Ambassador Uju said the association had recorded notable achievements in less than two years of her administration, including the purchase of plots of land, acquisition of a Toyota Hummer bus, educational support and youth empowerment.

“We bought plots of land under two years of my administration. We bought a Hummer bus and empowered our youths in tertiary and secondary schools as well as through skill acquisition,” she said.

Uju disclosed that the association had also awarded scholarships to four children, representing the four kindreds that make up Ukwuinyi Village.

She attributed the successful acquisition of the bus to the collective commitment of the women and thanked everyone who contributed towards making the project a reality despite the challenges encountered.

“I appreciate my fellow executives, the women and our husbands for their roles in developing the village. May God bless and reward them all,” she said.

The President General urged the women to respect and support their husbands, stand for truth, embrace peace, love and unity, properly care for their children and continue to place their hope in God.

She also commended members of the Bus Purchasing Committee for the commitment and excitement with which they carried out the assignment.

Chairman of the Bus Purchasing Committee, Comrade Edith Onyinye Oluigbo, travelled to Lagos in the course of the procurement and played a leading role in purchasing and bringing the vehicle home.

Oluigbo described the successful acquisition as a collective achievement rather than a personal accomplishment.

“I feel deeply humbled, joyful and fulfilled to have been trusted as Chairman of this Bus Purchasing Committee and to have successfully purchased and handed over the bus to our women through our husbands,” she said.

She expressed hope that the vehicle would serve its purpose by promoting progress, unity and easier movement for the women.

Secretary of the Bus Purchasing Committee, Mrs. Ada Mbadugha, who is also President of the Ukwuinyi Women Owerri Branch, documented the procurement activities as the committee searched for the vehicle from Owerri through Onitsha and Aba before the eventual purchase in Lagos.

Mbadugha expressed excitement over the successful acquisition, describing the bus project as the brainchild of Uju.

“I’m very excited over the successful purchase of the bus by Ukwuinyi women. The idea is the brainchild of Hon. Chika Uju, our President, and we pray that God gives her more wisdom to achieve more during her tenure,” she said.

She described the success of the project as a demonstration of “Idi na Otu Bu Ike”… unity is strength.

Following the acquisition, Assistant Financial Secretary of Ukwuinyi Women General, Mrs Chinasa Uzoma, now chairs the committee monitoring the bus, while Mrs. Chinyere Asimobi serves as Secretary of the monitoring committee.

Other officials associated with the programme included the Home President, Golden Lady Egondu Nneji Dike, and Secretary General, Mrs. Chibuzo Orjiako among others.

The event featured joyful dance moments where the women celebrated what they described as another product of collective effort towards the development of Ukwuinyi Village.
