There is Nothing Like “IMO RADIO CALLERS ASSOCIATION”, The Name is a Big Joke

By ThankGod Emeh, Owerri.

The Name of a said media association “IMO RADIO CALLERS ASSOCIATION” has got me thinking aloud as well as curious of the underground and underlying foundation, motive, vision and mission.

Initially, I was of the thought of the pre-exquisites for being a member of the association but I think every aspect of that move by the selected members are unfounded.
Even the name sounds funny…. How can one join the association before picking his or her phone loaded with airtime to call a station???

Do the Association give out phones and airtime for the calls???

What’s really their business???

For me, there is no need tinkering my head for a far fetched and non-existent answers to the above.

The name “Imo Radio Callers Association” sounds as good as the word “Absurd” as it is not a career to make a call, even to Radio Stations and does not speak of any profession or as it is show a bit of professionalism….if not one would have seen all of them making sense on discuss of important and national issues of concern without been booed, warned of their stance and standards or even been yanked off.

The name if something worthy to put to memory bear no other appearance but a government face or any other accepted face the members of the “so-called” association molds for it…. and their aim is not widely misunderstood to say that they want and desire to doctor some if not a good number or all of people’s views, opinions, actions and inactions on the happenstances in society and as well call from the different locations or even fake locations to air their collective take on such issues of concern.

It’s a civic responsibility to make meaningful contributions on Radio, TV as well as other media platforms. The “Imo Radio Callers Association” has not bearing at all to go about people’s view on issue.

In fact, too many titles should be jettisoned on air, the callers should be guided aright to make do of the stipulated time frame and not long stories of unnecessary introduction geared at intimidating a wide audience or even the presenters in allowing them more time to make a comment…. Opinion leaders are not made and crown on radio station, they spring from their localities. I know of callers who just introduce themselves and their locations and goes straight to the point for which they called and after on or a visit to their office or homes, one will then know that they are professors and what have you. If not what will Imo Radio Callers Association will be all about???

I still wonder if one will ever call a station in Imo if not a member of the aforesaid and so-called association that the status in Imo society is as good as “never” and moribund if partially existing.

It would be wise and the choicest decision to find another name for their meeting and so called activities other the well said “proposed” name for I strongly know that such name holds no water of existence because the media and her audience participatory programmes cannot be narrowed or dovetailed to an association thing. How come???

The motive for that is yet unknown and should be demanded… Audience participatory programmes from the media were not their brain child or of their making, so where are the coming from?

For the records, the phone-in-programmes were created to carry all members of society along in the schemes of things as regards the actions and inactions of the government which is on its own defined as government of the people, by the people and for the people. And the media is the fourth (4th) arm of the government or 4th Estate of the Realm.

I call on On-Air Personalities alongside the broadcast station managements to step up their functions and shun some sycophancy, misleading takes and bastardization of the media roles.

Thanks….
