SEMEF Appreciates Tinubu for appointing Igbokwe as FEDPONEK Rector …Urges him to disregard media propaganda against her
South East Media Editors Forum (SEMEF) has called on the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to disregard the negative media propaganda by some sponsored agents against the recent appointment of Dr. Basilia Igbokwe as the 9 Substantial Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri-West Imo State. This is even though she is ably qualified for the office.
SEMEF made the call in a press release signed by its National Coordinator, Don Uba KSP; rising from their emergency meeting in Owerri on Friday, where the forum resolved to condemn the media attacks as it is uncalled for.
According to the release, the New Rector’s appointment followed due process and totally short of all the allegations levelled against her as she merited the appointment in all ramifications and have worked for the progress and development of the institution through her academic works among others.
“The media attacks by a group who is using their access to the judiciary and media to cause unnecessary trouble is condemnable and we are appealing to President Tinubu to ignore the unwarranted allegations that her appointment as the Rector was in non-compliance with the Polytechnic’s Act.
“Dr. Basilia Igbokwe is a seasoned academic and an attitude administrator having emerged as the best candidate after a rigorous and keenly contested election process.
“Furthermore, her appointment was legally and duly ratified by the Governing Council of the institution before approval by the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Igbokwe has paid her dues in the development of the Polytechnic over the years. She didn’t fall from the moon to be elected, ratified, and appointed respectively as the Rector of the institution. It is an aberration why some individuals are sponsoring a group to tarnish her image. This can be described as an emotional tendency.
“In fact, it is ridiculous and a disappointment to every right-thinking person in society for one in his or herr ight senses to attack a mother without any tangible reason.
“Igbokwe merited the appointment having demonstrated exceptional qualifications, experience, and leadership expertise. Her credentials are not in doubt, and she has the ability and confidence to drive the institution to more lofty heights.
”On inquiries, the Polytechnic’s staff, students and the Host Community are very happy with the appointment and have vowed to make her succeed in her new position.
“She is a beacon of hope, and we have taken our time to investigate Igbokwe’s background both in the institution and outside the institution and discovered that she is impeccable and exceptionally prudent in her leadership qualities and has good track records of delivery in her previous leadership roles in the institution and beyond.
“To the best of our knowledge, without mincing words, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe is the right choice for the institution at this particular point in time because of her vision, passion, and commitment to excellence.
“It is worthy of note that the jobless attackers are not talking against her credentials or experience or even about her inability to lead the institution over the appointment; rather, they are talking about “not following due process.” this is very unfortunate.
“This is a clear sign that they have nothing against her if not for jealousy.
They prepared to fail in their bid to bring her down from abinitio. Let her attackers wait for their own time,
refrain from their childish attitude, and stop playing to the gallery as more than one person can never be the Rector of an institution at a time.
“The sponsoring of the media attacks will immediately die down when the financial backers become tired and outspend their budgets.
“The new Rector, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe, is an outstanding Leader, and she is the best among the best for the Office of the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri West Imo State.
“We urge the public to disregard those unfounded claims by moneymongers and to always verify information through the official channels of the institution”, the stated.
