Poultry Association of Nigeria celebrates 2024 World Egg day

The 2024 celebration of the Poultry Association of Nigeria World Egg Day with the theme “United by Egg” has taken place at FSP Mbari Owerri, recently.

In his address, the Imo State chairman Poultry Association of Nigeria Engr Dalus Ofor stated that the world egg day is globally celebrated annually in every second day of October, generally intended ito highlight, bring to the fore the special and unique significance of the egg in the nutritional and general well being of mankind.

Engr Ofor posited that ” The World Egg Day Celebration is aimed at educating people on the role of eggs in promoting healthy growth and development especially in malnourished populations, as eggs also addresses global food security as an affordable and accessible source of nutrition, making them a critical component in the fight against hunger and food security in low income communities, where access to diverse food sources is limited.

He reiterated that the day celebration fosters economic growth by projecting the significance of egg production as a vital part of the global agriculture economy, underscores the economic significance of egg industry particularly for rural communities where poultry farming provides income and employment opportunities.

Still speaking, the Chairman highlights the significance of egg as a critical component of sustainable agriculture as one of the most sustainable animal protein sources, serves as a reminder of the importance of egg as one of the most environmentally friendly agriculture practice’s which often requires fewer resources (land,water and feed) compared to other livestock.

The PAN boss further emphasised, that the day raises awareness about food safety, encouraging best practices in egg production and consumption also, ensuring that eggs are handled, stored, and cooked properly to reduce the risk of food borne illnesses.

He however noted that the day promotes education on egg safety, proper handling to ensure that eggs remain a safe and healthy source and most importantly, the day is also used to promote the nutritional value cand versatility of the egg, as a wonder food with unique health benefits due to its very high protein content, essential vitamins and minerals.

He thereby disclosed that the Imo chapter has consistently ensures that they commemorate this daily annually as a platform to propagate the importance of egg and the role of poultry farmers as partners in the socioeconomic growth and development of the state.
