Police public relations in the state, Chief Superintendent of Police, (CSP) Orlando Ikeokwu, made the disclosure in a statement, said a warrant of arrest have already been issued in that regards.
Orlando ” it is a pity Mr. Edward Onyenwezi was murdered, however upon investigation it was revealed that he and his younger brother Alfred Onyenwezi were involved in LGBTQ which is a criminal offence in Nigeria and carries a fourteen year jail term”.

Our correspondent, Nwachukwu Ikenna, reports that Mr. Edward Onyenwezi from Umueju village in Irete Autonomous Community, in Owerri West local government area of Imo State was attacked and murdered by unknown men, however we gathered that the deceased murder may be connected to his sexual orientation.
Ikenna, who visited the family reports that Mr. Edward Onyenwezi has been monitored by some youths within the community following allegations that he is alleged to be actively involve in same sex relationship and the LGBTQ community.
Nwachukwu gathered that the deceased was allegedly caught with his partner Chidiebere Anyanwu and were to be mobbed, when Mr. Edward Onyenwezi managed to escape leaving his partner behind, who was beaten and attacked by the mob who apprehended him, because same sex relationship is a taboo and are culturally condemned as well as criminalized under national law, punishable by imprisonment or worse.
Eye witnesses who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity say Mr. Edward’s younger brother, Alfred Onyenwezi who’s where about is unknown will be lynched if he is seen within the community or any part of the state because his brothers partner, Chidiebere mentioned that Alfred Onyenwezi is actively involved in same sex relation and his partner is known within the area, noting that he is part of their circle.
We equally gathered that some of the suspects who were involved in the mob action and were arrested by the police authorities have all been released because the community leadership mobilized and alleged that the deceased and his younger brother Alfred Onyenwezi has brought great shame and reproach to their family and have committed sacrilegious acts which has death penalty and the community youth have been asked to be on the lookout for Alfred Onyenwezi who ran away after his name was mentioned as a member of LGBTQ by Chidiebere Anyanwu.
