Orlu Senate: Jones Onyereri & the Penultimate Need, Urgency to shut out Expired Politicians
By ThankGod Emeh.

With the General Elections just a few days away, Nigerians and Imolites remain divided and undecided on who to vote for in spite of ample handful of candidates vying for a particular office.
It is no longer gainsaying that Imo state and its makeup- the senatorial zones and local government areas as well as the elected and electoarate has gone wild and wide in all ramification as to what real politics is defined as and use to be.
Inasmuch as federal character occasioned by the federal and presidential systems of government and Nigeria in particular stipulates inclusion of all quarters of the country in the scheme of things to make the six geopolitical regions feel a sense of belonging, Orlu Senatorial seat is a birth right and free position for all bonafide indigene of the area that deems fit to run for the post and not the other way round for a particular and few local government areas to continue to hold sway of the senatorial position as well as the governorship post which has lasted in the area for sixteen years now.

In view of the foregoing, it is grossly undemocratic, unpalatable and as well unacceptable for any right thinking Orlu born and the people of Ideato Nation- North and South to project and support any of their sons or daughters for Orlu senatorial seat after eight uninterrupted years of Rochas Okorocha as governor of Imo state. It is eminent to point out that Ideato Nation has gotten their own piece of the state’s cake in the person of Okorocha and family for the whole of two terms he held sway and can now be well put that you cannot have your cake and eat it. Let other zones of the state and virgin local government areas- Nkwere, Njaba, Isu and Nwangele which happens to be the largest federal constituency in Orlu senatorial zone be given the mandate to effectively represent the people at the Red chambers because we have all seen what our former representatives in same position were able to achieve, of course enriching a particular area of interest and their pockets in particular.
Similarly, the alleged plans of the incumbent Senator representing Orlu, Senator Hope Uzodinma to hand over to his kinsman from Oru West, Senator Osita Izunaso who has in the past represented the zone in the Federal House of Representatives while he goes for the No. 1 office in the state is a development unworthy to write home about as it tends to bring gross marginalization to the table. Unfortunately, many men do not realize that they had a golden opportunity at one time until that opportunity is only a memory of the past.
According to statistics, Orlu zone as the highest senatorial zone in Imo state with 12 local government areas in addition to being the oil-producing zone and food basket of the state has never gotten it right in terms of the dreamt and expected developments in all ramifications. There is epileptic power supply, bad road network, poor health facilities and fallen standard of education among many others yearned against.

Concerned citizens in the state who decried the bad state of Orlu senatorial zone ocassioned by past senators who has represented the zone for over sixteen years said there is purely nothing to show in the areas of education, pensionable jobs, payment of salary as and when due.
“There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on the fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries”, “On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures” was said by Brutus when the going was tough and same instance now calls for emulation to do the right thing at the polls.
Pointing out the anomalies in the process of election in Imo state, the Director General of Jones Onyereri Senatorial Campaign Organisation, Prince Eze Ugochukwu stressed that equity is the anchor point to getting it right in Orlu senate and the state in general as who becomes the governor come 2nd March polls.
According to him, ” Honourable Jones Onyereri is very sound, articulated and compassionate of the people of Orlu Zone but disturbed of how most politicians in the zone represent only themselves, families and their pockets at the expense of the peoples mandate hence his decision to run for the office to change the narrative.”

He added that a vote for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Honourable Jones Onyereri come Saturday, February 16 scheduled for Presidential and National Assembly elections will not be a wasted one but a vote of liberation from the old order.
Also speaking, a media aide to Honourable Jones Onyereri, Mr Macdonald Njoku said the former is the best answer and remedy to the infrastructural and developmental decays in Orlu senatorial post having touched lives, reached out to the masses and broken the jinx of inaccessibility shown by his predecessors from the zone in the Federal House of representatives.
“There is no clear manifesto of what politicians intends to achieve when voted into office but talks about what and what not the past and present politicians did wrong and ways to rewrite and conquer the anomaly in the system”, both media strategists fumed.
Recall the promise of N10.000.00 to corp members in the state today has not been redeemed.
