Obitti Community Decries Deplorable Road, Appeals to Imo Govt for Urgent Rehabilitation
Ikenna Orioha
Following the Policy of Rebuilding Imo State holistically, Obitti Community, has called on the Imo State Government led by Governor Emeka Ihedioha, to urgently rehabilitate their Road which is becoming a death trap to ease movement and encourage productivity.
The plea for the prompt repair of the Road was made by the people of Obitti people through their Youth President, Comrade Eluke Chebe, while having audience with journalists in Owerri, recently.
The people of Obitti who pleaded passionately with Imo State Government, Waltersmith Oil and Gas Servicing Company, Shell and other Major Oil and Gas Servicing Companies operating within Ohaji, Egbema Region that ply the ever busy Road, to expedite action to rehabilitate the Road to save lives and strengthen development.
The Youth President added that “Obitti Road is an Access Oil Road which is in deplorable state. The Road links other Communities within Ohaji, Egbema and Oguta enclave. But it is a neglect that this Road has not been rehabilitated by those concerned. It poses danger to the lives of Obitti indigenes and residents, dampens farming and other commercial activities”.
“Not only that Obitti Road is an Access Oil Road, products from Imo Rubber Plantation, Obitti is being conveyed through Obitti. So, Imo State Government ought to liaise with the Oil Servicing Companies operating within the the locality to urgently fix the Road to save lives and encourage productivity”.
The people of Obitti who recounted how they have been neglected and abandoned by the previous administration in terms of infrastructure and social amenities like electricity, healthcare delivery including quality education and employment opportunities despite their economic input to the coffers of the state, appealed to Governor Emeka Ihedioha to ensure that the Obitti Road is rehabilitated as soon as the rain stops.
Eluke reminded that Obitti people voted massively to the PDP during the 2019 guber election with full conviction that the PDP led government would construct and rehabilitate their badly damaged Road, build electricity and healthcare centre for them, as well as construct new school buildings and equip them with state-of-the-art equipments.
Eluke reflected that “Obitti Community, which houses the largest rubber plantation in West Africa: Imo Rubber Plantation Estate, the deepest gas location in Africa: Oguali 1 & Oguali 2 Gas Location, etc, must not be taken for granted in terms dividends of democracy even though Obitti Community has no outstanding, patriotic and courageous leader who can stand for them”.
The people of Obitti did not also mince words as they craved the help of government to extend its empowerment opportunities to their youths and women to stem youth restiveness at the area.
In his words, “Obitti people are solidly supporting Governor Emeka Ihedioha on his policy of Rebuilding Imo State holistically. We beg you, Sir, to remember Obitti Community in your government because we fully gave you our mandate despite antagonism by past government”.
