NLC National Takes Over Imo NLC Protest Against Govt, Meets with Govt Friday
The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), National Secretariat has taken over the protest against the government over the unpaid salaries of workers and pensioners in the state.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Chairman, Imo State chapter of NLC, Comrade Austin Chilakpu during an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee of the union held at the Labour House, New Owerri.
Comrade Chilakpu said he had contacted the national secretariat of NLC on the development between Imo State Government and the organised labour on the issue of salary payment of Imo workers and pensioners since the inception of Gov. Hope Uzodimma’s administration.
He said that many workers and pensioners in the state have not been paid their salaries and other entitlements.
The NLC chairman also said that there were many other demands by the labour which the government allegedly refused to implement leading to the 14-day ultimatum given to government to implement the workers demand or face industrial strike by Imo workers.
The chairman said after going through his complaint sent to the national secretariat of NLC, the national decided to handle the issue itself.
Consequently, the state government had invited the organised Imo Labour for a meeting on Friday to discuss the issues it raised against it.
An invitation letter signed by the Secretary to the Imo State Government(SSG), Mr Cosmas Iwu indicated that the meeting would hold at the office of the SSG by 2pm.
Confirming the invitation, Comrade Chilakpu said the NLC national secretariat officials would lead the Imo NLC delegation to the meeting.
