Maiden Edition Of World Homeopathy Day In Nigeria: Dr Okafor, Other Experts Expose Homeopathy As Complete System Of Medicine

Thursday 10th of April, 2025 became a day of global history in Nigeria following the celebration of the maiden edition of World Homeopathy day in the country which was organized by PAN African Homeopathic Medical College (PHMC) in association with Homeopathic Medical Association of Nigeria (HMAN).
The great event was held amidst pomp in Mgbidi, Oru West local area, Imo state which attracted people from all walks of life.
Dr Nkem Okafor, a foremost homeopathic doctor and the provost of PAN African Homeopathic Medical college said that they had gathered to celebrate a day dedicated to recognize the contributions of both homeopathy and homeopaths to health care,those who have been healed with homeopathy and also that the day was chosen to commemorate with the birthday of the founder of Homeopathic system of Medicine, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843).

The provost further highlighted that it was a day to remember in a significant way, the founder of Homeopathy in Nigeria, the late Eze Dr. Michael Okafor.
He described Homeopathy as a complete system of Medicine developed in the late 18th century based on the principles of ‘like cure like’.
Dr. Okafor said that the Central Council for Research in homeopathy’s theme for this year’s celebration is education, teaching, and research which he said tally with the motto of their college.
He said that the goal of the Homeopathy day celebration is to increase public awareness of homeopathy by bringing together practitioners, enthusiasts and supporters from all over the world and making it clear that homeopathy is science as well as an art and that according to homeopathy, the body heals itself making their role to assist nature heal itself.
He further disclosed that homeopaths train for several years, not less than 6 years covering almost all the courses in Medicine.
He made a reference to the report of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2005 which indicated that homeopathy is a recognized science and beneficiary which was reported to cause panic among the big Pharmacy.

He also revealed that the royal family of Britain believe in homeopathy and that in India, there would always be a homeopathic physician to every president or prime minister.
In their communique signed by Dr. Julian Ukpaka, the national president of HMAN; Dr A.D.C. Akubueze, national secretary; Dr Nkem Okafor, provost, PHMC and special adviser to HMAN; Dr Richard Nwiwu, president HMAN governing council, they reiterated their resolve to promote and encourage standards and effective homeopathic medical practices among which include that every qualified homeopathic medical practitioner must practice within the scope and tenet of his training, that homeopathic medicine totally differs from traditional and herbal medicine and that homeopathic medicine is a valid, statutory and recognized system of medical practice in Nigeria vides Medical and Dental practitioners (amendment) decree no 78 of 1992 or MDCN Act Cap M8 laws of the federation 2004 and saying that its attention has been drawn to certain incidences where some individuals caught by the law enforcement agents in unethical practices claimed to be graduates of PHMC as they therefore advise that before such matters are taken to press, it will have been verified. They also condemned the uncontrolled surgery procedures being carried out with basic qualifications in the field of medicine in Nigeria.
Some of the highlights of the occasion were the paper presented by Dr. A.D.C. Akubueze, a renowned consultant Homeopathic physician with the theme “Celebrating the clinical influence of Homeopathy in Medical practice” and an address read by Obinna Amadi, President of the students union of PHMC.
