Tragic Killing of IPOB Supporter Sparks Fear in Mbaise Community ||| NEWS CORNER
Mbaise, Imo State – Tragedy struck in Mbaise as Collins Chima Eze, a well-known supporter of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was killed by unidentified gunmen in his hometown on Thursday. The brutal attack has left his family and community members in shock, as tensions rise amid escalating violence in the region.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants ambushed Eze in the early hours of the morning, opening fire before fleeing the scene. While the motive behind the killing remains unclear, the police have launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators. Authorities have called for calm, assuring the public that they are committed to bringing the attackers to justice.
Local community leaders and residents expressed concern that the killing of Eze, who was known for his peaceful advocacy, might signify a disturbing trend of targeted violence. The incident has also sparked fears for the safety of his family members, as reports suggest that his son, Emmanuel Chima Eze, could be the next target.
It is reported that Emmanuel has either gone into hiding or fled the nation for his life and safety, with his current whereabouts unknown.

Community activists and human rights groups have condemned the killing, calling on security forces to address the ongoing violence that has gripped the region. “We urge the authorities to investigate and take swift action to restore peace and security. No one should be targeted for their beliefs or affiliations,” said Chinedu Okeke, a local human rights advocate.
The Imo State Police Command has assured the public that they are fully committed to identifying and apprehending the culprits behind this act.
“We are intensifying our efforts and have deployed additional personnel to ensure safety and stability in the area,” said DSP James Okorie, the spokesperson for the police command.
The situation in the southeastern region of Nigeria remains tense, with clashes between security forces and IPOB sympathizers often resulting in casualties. The recent incident underscores the urgency for dialogue and peacebuilding efforts to prevent further escalation and loss of innocent lives.
Authorities and local stakeholders are calling for calm while investigations continue. The public is advised to provide any information that could assist in apprehending those responsible.
As investigations progress, Eze’s family remains hopeful that justice will prevail. The entire community mourns the loss of a man many described as peaceful and committed to his cause.
