Imo SWAN Hails Heartland Queens’ Federation Cup Final Berth, Celebrates NBA Draft Pick Onyenso
The Imo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has saluted Heartland Queens for booking a historic place in the final of the 2026 President Federation Cup, describing the feat as a fitting reward for the team’s grit, discipline and impressive cup run.
In a statement jointly signed by Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka and Secretary Tunde Liadi, the association applauded the Owerri-based side for navigating past formidable opponents on their road to the showpiece finale.
SWAN expressed confidence that the Naze Millionaires Ladies would fly the state’s colours high when they square up against Nasarawa Amazons in the title decider slated for July 11 in Asaba.

The association also joined the basketball fraternity in celebrating Imo-born towering centre, Ugonna Onyenso, following his selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, describing the achievement as another major win for sports development in the state.
According to SWAN, Onyenso’s rise from the NBA Academy Africa to basketball’s grandest stage is a testament to talent, hard work and unwavering commitment, and serves as motivation for the next generation of athletes dreaming of global stardom.
The sports writers body urged both Heartland Queens and Onyenso to remain focused and maintain their upward trajectory as they continue to carry the Imo banner on national and international arenas.
SWAN further assured the cup finalists and the NBA prospect of the unwavering support of sports stakeholders and fans across the state as they chase greater laurels in their respective careers.
