Imo SWAN Announces AI Ethics Workshop for Sports Journalists ||| NEWS CORNER
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape newsrooms across the globe, sports journalists in Imo State are set to examine how to harness the technology without compromising professional standards.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo Chapter, in a release signed by the Secretary, Tunde Liadi announced a one-day training focused on ethical and effective AI use in sports reporting.
The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Owerri and is being organised by the chapter leadership led by Cosmos Chukwuemeka.
The programme, themed “Ethics & Professionalism in the Generative AI Era,” will hold at the OtownGist Media and Creative Hub while the Founder of the hub, Chinedu Hardy Nwadike, will serve as resource person for the session.

According to the organisers, the workshop will provide “practical knowledge on using AI tools for faster and more efficient sports reporting,” covering match reports, interview transcription and digital content distribution.
The association also stressed that the training will “strongly emphasise accuracy, originality, and credibility,” guiding journalists on responsible AI use, fact verification and preserving editorial integrity.
Live demonstrations are expected to show how AI can be integrated into real-time newsroom operations.
