Imo Monarchs Embrace Community Policing, Inaugurates Pilot Members

One of the frontline traditional rulers in Imo State and the Co-Chairman of the State Community Policing Advisory Committee, EZE Emmanuel Okeke has inaugurated members of the Imo state traditional institution on community policing in the Twenty Seven (27) Local government areas of the state.
He said during the event at the EZE Imo Palace, Mbari in Owerri that the Committee which was set up by the federal government through the Inspector -General of Police (IG) would essentially assist security agencies in fishing out miscreants and tackling criminality in communities across the state.
EZE Okeke who challenged members not to compromise standards in selecting those that would pilot the affairs of community policing in the state said the inaugurated Chairmen of the traditional rulers would be in charge of the community policing in their various areas.
The Monarch however solicited for support to ensure the sustainability of the initiative in the state while calling for all and sundry to join hands to ensure that Governor Hope Uzodinma succeeds.
He noted that the present administration in the state has restored the pride of the traditional institution in the state while assuring that all that would be required to make community policing a success in the state have been made available by the present administration.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Mr. Dan Okoro maintained that the establishment of the advisory Committee was targeted at bringing policing to the people and making them active participants in protection of lives and property.
Mr. Okoro cautioned that any community that condoled conspiracy in crime and criminality would be dealt with accordingly.
The SA on Security also urged the Monarchs not to shield domestic violence, child molesters and rape cases in their communities.
He assured that all cases and information reported to Divisional Police Officers(DPO) would be followed suit and prosecuted.
Reacting One of inaugurated LGA chairmen, EZE Joel Udenkwo from Nkwerrre LGA gave an assurance that they would be active partners in the fight against crime and criminality while EZE Chudume Okoro said the introduction of the community Policing initiative would bring about peace, stability and development across communities in the state.
Other Principal Officers of the Imo State Traditional Institution on Community Policing as appointed by the governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma include EZE David Osuagwa Deputy Chairman Owerri Zone, EZE Thomas Obiefule Deputy Chairman Orlu Zone and EZE G.A. Okeke Deputy Chairman for Okigwe Zone.
The Commissioner of Information and Strategy Mr. Declan Emelumba was also present at the event.
