IMO LG POLLS: Ideato North PDP Boils as Onyereri Tears House Apart

Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ideato North have begun to spit fire over moves to impose a chairmanship candidate on the party ahead of the local government elections slated for December this year.

The leaders, it was reliably gathered, are peeved by the insistence of the Special Adviser to Governor Ihedioha on political matters, Hon. Jones Onyereri, that the slot must be reserved for one Chinenye Nwabueze who hails from Osina.

A chieftain of the party who spoke to us on condition of anonymity disclosed that all the leaders of the party are gearing up for a showdown with Onyereri.

His words, “It is unfortunate and reprehensible that Onyereri should leave his local government area only to come to Ideato North to create confusion. We are also worried that our own son, Chinemeya Iheaku, who should know better has allowed himself to be roped into such injustice,” he decried.

Revealing the source of their grievances, another stalwart of the party hinted that “the imposition of Chinenye Nwabueze who comes from Osina on the party is the height of injustice and insensitivity. PDP is a party known for equity and fair distribution of offices.”

According to him, “Here in Ideato North, we have about thirty-three communities, and Osina is just one of them, even one of the smallest among them. Today, the SA to the Governor on Trade and Investment is from Osina. The PDP Apex Leader is from Osina. The PDP LGA Chairman is from Urualla which is in the same clan as Osina. Yet again, Hon. Onyereri wants to impose Chinenye Nwabueze from Osina on us as our chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming LGA election.

“This was why we decided to meet and unanimously agreed that it will never happen. People must stop taking advantage of their closeness to the Governor to institute injustices and create disaffection here and there. Our Governor is a man of equity, and equity gave us victory during the last elections. If they insist on this very unpopular imposition, we will be left with just the choice of dumping the party en masse.”

When contacted, a Zonal Officer of the party from Ideato North berated Hon. Onyereri for being too ambitious. She added that Onyereri has already started preparations for the 2023 senatorial bid and hopes to achieve that by planting those through whom he can control the resources and political structures of many local government areas in Orlu Zone.
