Imo Former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Maduagwu Hosts El- Rufai, Peter Obi, Others Amidst Pomp

The presence of the former governor of Kaduna state, who was also the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasiru El- Rufai and that of Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra state and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour party(LP) were positively felt in Awaka, Owerri North on Friday amidst pomp.

The former speaker of Imo state House of Assembly who was also a senior special assistant to the former President, Rt.Hon. Nnaemeka Maduagwu played host to the duo at a dinner party that took place at the residence of his brother in-law, Dr C.J.Oparah which was graced and livened by relatives, friends, well-wishers and many noted personalities.

At the dinner party, the Rt. Hon. Nnaemeka Maduagwu made it clear that the gathering was not political, but a friendly dinner party in honour of Mallam El- Rufai whom he worked under at the FCT ministry during the regime of Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Anglican Bishop of Egbu Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Geoffery Okorafor in his prayers stressed the need to give honour to God Almighty always so as to attract His guidance at all times needed in the daily activities of the people.

In their remarks at the dinner party, Mallam El-Rufai had called for a true federalism with a new constitution which he expressed confidence that if put in place, there would be freedom from harassment and intimidation, and would entail elimination of banditry, insecurity, pipeline vandalism, kidnapping and all the criminal activities.

He further explained that having a new Nigeria would usher in inter- ethnic unity, centralized mindset and would  also make the country be run as a unity polity.

The former FCT minister urged the people to fully engage in the electoral process, prime of which they must obtain their voter cards and vote at the elections.

He urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children who have attained the ages of 18 also get their PVCs for the purposes of doing the needful at the polls aware that Nigeria is in danger.

Speaking too, Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour party(LP) and a former governor of Anambra state said that everyone should play a role towards making Nigeria better and that the federal government as a matter of necessity should endeavour to pull the people out from poverty and fight insecurity in other to put the governed in safe situations.

Mr Obi said that Nigeria can make larger revenues from Agriculture much more than through oil which he said would be beneficial to the nation.

Prior to the remarks of the two former governors, the few persons who spoke stressed the need for unity and progress in Nigeria.
