I left My Marriage because of My Life -Journalist

An Imo State-based journalist, Ms Joy Opara has opened up on why her marriage to a cleric hit the rock two years after.

Opara said she bade the union bye to save her limbs and life.

In a Facebook post on Thursday January 23, Opara counseled women in toxic marriages to run for their dear lives before it becomes too late.

She alluded to domestic battery while the marriage lasted.

Ms Opara however congratulated those in successful marriages and encouraged them to stay and enjoy the blissful union.

Ms Opara expressed regret that a woman waited to be barbecued by her husband where she must have had ample signs and opportunities to vote with her feet.

She wrote; “And the woman that was burnt to death by her husband shouted… Nne m ooooooooo, Ije di oooooo, ije di ooooooo, ije di egbuom.

“And that was it, today she is in the mortuary because of marriage.

“December 29th 2024 should have been my three years marriage anniversary but I left because I understood that my life should not be on the line because of a bad marriage, or because I want to be called or seen as a married woman or because I want to answer nwunye odogwu, or because of what the world will say.

“The world that will gather and chop rice on top my head if my burial poster reads as a woman who died out of domestic violence.

“Women, women, women, marriage is not a do-or-die affair ooooo.

I am staying because of my children is now six feet below and the children will still survive.

“I can’t leave because of what people will say, is now in the mortuary.

I can’t leave because I don’t have anything to take care of myself is being taken care of in the grave oooooo.

Hmmmmmmm, if your marriage is working out good for you, beautiful, enjoy it to the full but if you dey collect wotowoto on a daily basis, hmmmm, my sister advise yourself the way I advised myself.

“I won’t be the one to tell you to leave before you report me to your puncher husband”.
