Human Rights Commission Tasks Women on Their Basic Rights, Freedom
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged Nigerian women to ensure they defend their basic rights and freedom to which all persons are entitled to as human beings.

The Commission gave the advice at a one day “Sensitisation, Advocacy and Enlightenment on Child and Women Rights and Abuse” for women in Imo North Senatorial zone of Imo State.
The programme which was held at Okoha Isiala Mbano and Umunna, Onuimo Local Government Areas of Imo state respectively was attracted by the late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu who represented Imo North Senatorial District in the senate.
The commission identified Right to Life, Right to Dignity of Human Person, Right to Personal Liberty, Right to Fair Hearing, Right to Freedom of Religion as rights enshrined under chapter IV of the Nigerian Constitution which the women should use to protect themselves.
Mr Aroma Alifa, the Resource person enlightened the participants on the rights and factors that could result in violatation.
He noted that people, especially women are entitled to their rights and freedom irrespective of their nationality, race, ethnicity, gender or religion.
He advised them to always follow due process to seek redress when their rights are violated.
Mr Ikechukwu Eze a stakeholder thanked the Federal Government for bringing the programme to the people which would enable them know their rights.
He commended late Sen. Benjamin Uwajumogu for attracting the programme to the area.
One of the participants Mrs Agatha Ihim, expressed gratitude to the organisers of the programme for letting the women know thair rights especially in police matters and land cases which before is difficult for women to participate in the negotiations for such matters.
